as some of you know i work for calsonic who, as well as supplying honda, supply nissan with parts. today i sent out the last of the speedo meters, HVAC's and sensors for the p12 primera. so sometime tonight or early in the morning the last prim will be rolling off the line. cant say I'm a fan of the new shape one, but i didnt mind the early ones, or the facelifted version. either way, it leaves us producing parts for the note and the other abomination they produce at sunderland.

I loved the BTCC ass-kicking primera's. The GT's of the same shape were pretty sweet as well. Got camberZ?

Hirst is right again, as ever. I think the P10 in saloon form as ZX/GT has a really mean, drive-me look to it. I've seen so few P12s around it wouldn't have surprised me if they'd canned it months ago.
P11 estate quite elegant I think, would like to see one given a cleaned look.
If there is no replacement does this mean the average non-prestige mid-market car is headed the same way as Scorpio etc? Accord and Mazda 6 seem popular enough.
P10 very popular now as a banger as Bluebird supplies dry up.

There's no replacement. Renault have dictated that NIssan are useless at producing normal cars (witness the Almera) and are going to concentrate on 4x4 evolutionary dead end niche stuff now instead. That was according to the Nissan rep at the place I used to work anyway Maybe they'll put Stefan Swartz or whatever his face is under a Navarra and drive it backwards and forwards for a bit.

as mr AHD has pointed out, there is no replacement. they must be expecting the cashcard to sell well, theyve got them all over the place, parked up grass verges and waste ground cos the holding carparks are full.

There's no replacement. Renault have dictated that NIssan are useless at producing normal cars (witness the Almera)......... Yet they do well in the USA with a geuinely interesting range of cars, and there's stacks of models in Japan. I've a feeling the problem is lame-brain European management.

Bit of a shame as primeras have always been decent handling, just very bland looking. Got one of these as my daily at the minute P11E I think these are. Same colour but mines just the standard hatch. Handles well had it since last June and its done around 20,000 mile since I got it. Other than an exhaust its only needed service items and its returned nearly 30mpg from a 1.8 petrol which for me is pretty damn good. Always fancied a P10 2.0 ZX or GT. A mate of mine used to have a quite a smart looking one pretty nippy but he struggled to sell it when the time came as there was no interest in them

To bring back the point about Nissan not making ordinary cars anymore, now with the whole compact crossover urban proof "lifestyle" hatches thing.
My dad is in an awkward situation with regards to cars nowadays. He was always a big fan of family-sized 5 door hatchbacks, i.e. Sierra, Rover 200 (Concerto based one), similar. Big enough that he could shove a load of timber in the back with the seats folded down, but small enough that he could get a fairly low spec one with a petrol engine around the 1.6L mark for economy.
When the time came for him to pick out a new company car, he was amazed to find that this sort of car barely exists anymore. The cars that popped up to replace that segment didn't suit his needs at all, mostly just compact cars with a higher roofline! But he didn't want something with a regular boot (not as easy to shove a load of DIY stuff in), neither did he want an estate or any gimmicky rubbish. In the end he did have to get a regular saloon (406), then later moved onto an estate (407), but he's annoyed at the whole situation. With the Primera disappearing, we are losing another one of these regular "bread and butter" cars in favour of cars that offer a "lifestyle" experience by being an awkward shape and packed with pointless gimmicketry.
I imagine in the future, cars will be so specific to you that they will be tailored by the customer in exacting detail to suit their "lifestyle". Mine will have one seat, a Fray Bentos pie holder and a musical horn that plays Italo Disco hits.

I know what you mean hirst. "normal" cars are getting thin on the ground.
even "super-minis" aren't doing what they're supposed to now.
Check out the new corsa...wtf is that all about ?
