Very reluctant sale of my 1974 Hillman Imp. I've had the car for two years now with the intention of restoring it, but I'm offering it for sale as due to work commitments I'm not going to get round to doing it any time soon.
It's a very rare find as the car has NEVER seen a welder. It does need some welding and panels changing underneath now, but it's survived remarkably well. It was taken off the road when the last tax disc expired in January 1988 (still on the screen) and also comes with some other old tax discs and MOT's.
The car was obviously very well cared for as when I first put it up on the ramp to inspect it, all the ball joints still had grease on them after all this time, so was obviously properly maintained and put away for storage properly having only covered 40 something thousand miles from new.
The majority of the steelwork has survived very well indeed, as I say it will now need some welding and ideally some new panels (all available). The best thing about this car is that whoever does restore it won't have to spend their time messing around with other people's dodgy welding or bodge jobs, it really is untouched. The important bits are all nice and solid.
The engine also runs and runs very well to be fair! I have a couple of short videos of the engine running, and all it needed was some fuel (added directly to the engine via a funnel) and it was back to life in literally two minutes. I didn't take it any further than that though due to perished pipework etc, but wouldn't take much at all to get it properly up and running.
Would make a really nice Imp and looks well in it's original Wardance Orange paintwork.
The car still wears its original steels, not the alloys as in some of the photos, they were just trial fitted.
I think it's a very fair price and a far better starting point than any other Imp you're likely to find as you'll save hours and hours not undoing previous work carried out. I'm not really looking for offers as I'm happy to keep it until I do get the time to work on it myself, but I'd rather see it done sooner by someone else to enjoy.
I'm happy to deliver anywhere in the UK mainland for a reasonable price.
Apologies for the photos not being the best size, the car is currently tucked away in my garage at home, but I can get better ones if required or come and have a look.
Cheers
Mike
