I've just bought a car off ebay (another Rangie) and it's about 40 or so miles away....
Does anyone know of any cheap car trailer hire places in/around the Derby/Nottingham area - indespension want £70 for a weekend or £47 for a day, I reckon that's a bit steep.
Failing that, can anyone recommend a transport company that would shift a car from Tamworth to Ilkeston (Notts/Derby border) for around £50?
Cheers, Martin

You'll struggle. I was trying to get a car shifted from just outside Loughbourough to my gaff South Notts, and its like 20 miles maybe 15 tops and I was getting quotes of £100+ to do it. A mate subs out to a guy who gave me the best price which might have been £70. He has a £40 minimum which is what he charged to movemy Capri across town. I can give you his number if you like? Nice bloke and relaible. I have also used Cartrans www.cartrans.co.uk a couple off time to shift stuff I have sold and a amte uses him all the time. Was £120 to bring a car from North Yorkshire down to Nottm.

thise trailer prices sound reasonable, you wont get a recovery truck for less than a £1 a mile these days and i most of em want a min of about 80 quid unless it really is only a few miles.
don't forget even a 40 mile job can take half a day by the time he leaves from his yard and then gets back so he'll want half a days wages for it.

I have rented cheapy trailers before but the chap who bought my Ventora's mate had just got busted with a rental trailer - over loaded (not sure by what margin) and 4 illegal tyres got him 12 points and a huge fine. I think about some of the trailers I've borrowed or rented in the past and I'm lucky still to have a licence.... LOL
Even the sh!ttest ones were like £25 a day

No worries! I sold the VP rather than move it*. Ironically, it's now sitting about a mile away from where I work...
*not entirely true as I couldn't be bothered to fix it either!

I know somebody reliable - can't remember names ofhand - was £75 from Oakham to Nottm.
However, local scrap collection man came over next day with his brother that owns a transporter, he he said he'd have done it for half that for cash... Can chase his number up if anybody needs him (it also might have been a favourable rate 'cos he has had a fair bit of scrap off me).
