1987 Honda Acty Pick Up truck in a fetching blue
this is a 550cc twin engined Kei class pick up in a rare 5 speed i bought as I'm obsessed with old Hondas. It was bought with no tax or test and needing a few little bits of work. These are quite rare to come across in a Tax and Tested condition and with minor rust and working / complete sides.
1987
550cc twin
rear wheel drive
5 months tax
11 months mot
68k (ish - truck isn't here to verify mileage its at my unit)
Heres a picture of how i bought it.
and back at my unit.
Since then its had the bulbs changed so they all work, the passenger headlight swapped, the throttle cable adjusted, along with the choke cable and the carb cleaned and idle speed adjusted. Its much more responsive and smoother on tick over. The spark plugs have been changed, along with the air filter, oil filter and oil.
Heres the power house!! it needs a good clean but i quite liked the rough and ready / used look.
The old plug versus new
It ran so much better after this. I was going to change the fuel filter too but i haven't gotten around to it as i have been busy busy with work, along with the gearbox oil which i would also change.
I ordered a JDM sized plate as thats what the recess was sized for and got that fitted along with some pre MOT checks.
The little Acty was given a wash, all bulbs checked, brake fluid was checked, coolant was checked, fan cut in and out as it should with no overheating and the tyre pressure was checked. I then booked it in for an MOT and it was given a few minor advisories... but passed.
Needs a couple of CV boots
The drum brakes need a clean up and adjust (been standing a while before i owned it)
Bed needs attention (old boy before had put plywood on there but not sealed it properly so it needs a few plates)
The boots are still available, not had time to replace but theres plenty of time on the MOT to get it sorted. The shoes for the drums are still available too but again I've had no time to sort this. The brakes do work theres just a fair bit of pedal travel and i can't see it taking long to adjust them. As for the bed, i have quickly tacked some steel on the bed so theres no holes and there won't be any issues with the legality side. I was going to tidy up the bed if we kept it and then put some nice wood down to make it look smart. but its strong enough for now and i have just painted the bed hammerite black.
So after this i gave it a good clean
The cabin is surprisingly spacious, non inertia reel seat belts and its a two seat cab. Never had a radio fitted and the heater works just great. It goes in and out the gears lovely, drives fine, is really nippy for a 550cc and i would drive it anywhere. I don't really want to see it go but i have too many project cars taking up all of my cash.
It made it to Retro Rides gathering 2014 and a few of you may have seen it
Its amazing on fuel and £15 gets you quite a lot... It went from Wolverhampton to Shelsley Walsh and back and a few other trips without needing more!
Lastly, we went to Kei cars in the park in Kingsbury, our friends took the Acty and we took the Honda City cabriolet. The Acty came 4th in its class and got a little rosette
heres a few little shots of the original stickers on the door and the vin plate that inside the cab lol
As far as i know there are only 22 of these left on the road in the UK. it will make an awesome little parts carrier / daily / commuter / shop truck / billboard for a business as it gets loads of attention everywhere it goes. Everything works, it starts first time, runs like a dream.
