i have the chance to buy the mintest unrestored car ive ever seen.
its a 100e prefect, ALL original paint, no rust ANYWHERE, mint interior still with the factory plastic seat coverings!! floor mats are really good as theyve been protected by a nice bit o' wilton. it has some very mild vandalism to the dash done by some kids, broken gauge glass and ashtray + felt pen on ally dash insert. the paint is nice and old and worn. its been dry stored since '70 when the headgasket went. still has the '70 tax disc in the window!!
it really is that good.
so how easily does a pinto and 4/5 speed slot in? discs? coilover front struts, etc? i can see it exactly as is but cleaned, polished and waxed, dropped about 3-4" over widened stock steels for that purposeful but stockish look, with a stockish pinto and box. all reversable mods.
and, what does the board think is a reasonalbe price for such a find?

Is it definitely a 100e not a 107e?

To fit a pinto you need to cut the bulkhead and make a new trans tunnel.
You can fit escort front struts but they'll make the wheels stick out of the arches. To counter this you have to move the strut tops in and re-position the TCA mounts.
105E back axle is the best for the back as you can fit 8.5" wide wheels without doing any other mods. However they're getting hard to find.

going on what spacekadett has done to his, pinto = bulkhead chop. 107e will take a x-flow without bulkhead surgery AFAIK. escort x-member and rack can be swapped, as can capri legs and brakes. pop parts plus do a kit, not sure if its permanent tho. problem is wheel offset then, unless you run some serious "poke". 105e axle is the ticket out back, but costly nowadays. I want to see one with a four inch section job and aquaplane tuning gear, hell yeah!

What the others have said. A 3 core mini rad will cool all but the hottest crossflow perfectly with a leccy fan and fits really easy.....Yes I said Mini stop looking at me like that.

The black 100E on starmags in my Henham thread had a 2-litre pinto in it, it comes from Ipswich and it's owned by someone called Des - spooky huh?!
Probably be worth you getting in touch with him as a local bod, but I don't have his contact details right now. His son is due to ring me at some point (he owns the Starlet) so I'll see what I can find out then. Alternatively Sniper/Giggles might know how to get hold of him, his name is Des Newell and he is/was a marshall up at Foxhall.
Sounds a great basis for a project!

I saw a nice one for £2500 as a stocker recently.
You might find your best return is to get that one running, driving, MOT'd and sell it to a flat cap for big money as 100% unrestored "survivors" are worth dosh and then splash the rest on one of the ones out there with a Pinto in it already and just need ing your personal touches to it.
