I am finding myself longing for this. If I owned it I would simply refer to it as 'my estate car'. "What kind of car have you got?" "A blue estate car." cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2497968580&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:ITI'm sorely tempted to bung in a generous bid and buy it. There's something very nonchalant yet exceptionally hardcore about using a car like that daily in the year 2004, and I like that. I think its the idea that i would feel like I was one of probably 3 or 4 people in the country who would be happy to drive round in such a thing. Yet doing so would be no hardship really. I am also impressed by the fact that the lad chose to photograph it on a rainy day outside a scrubby shopping arcade. I seem to recall that there is an even more extreme 3-door 'Van' version of this vehicle available, does that sound right? If so I hope there is one left somewhere.

That's just sooooperb!
You don't see many like that any more. Options for it are as follows: 1. Buy it, wear a grandad cap, sit too close to the steering wheel whilst smoking a rollup. Never drive above 30 and be constantly slipping the clutch.
2. Buy it. Keep it fairly stock, but drop it a bit and whack on some nice rims (in the style of the Senator that DarrenW posted the other week). Now smoke about in style and everyone confused as to whether it's slightly sad, or exceptionally ironic and cool!
I really like stuff like this!

Or for an even more practical unlikely classic, how's about this then? cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18307&item=2496812355&rd=1It's a Bedford TK! Hooray! 330 diesel too, and oddly enough it's not a horsebox, all the ones left seem to be. One of the last ones too, you wouldn't think they made TKs into the early '80s, would you? Only problem is I don't think it'd fit in my new garage, the door isn't high enough. (Well, not yet! ) Plus you could go down the bigger engine route, buy this bigger Bedford KM, it's a 16 tonne tipper, and it needs a lot of work apparently, but you could always take the 500 diesel and matching transmission out of this and replace the 330 in the TK with it. That'd be one hot TK!

CHEERS GANG it is tempting. Defo a flat cap job mind, I wouldnt fancy lowering it. The appeal is just using it everyday as if it was an 8-year old Mondeo estate or somenthing. "Whats the big deal, its just an estate car".
I just cant put my finger on the right words to explain the twisted appeal of this delightful old crate.
It would be best to wear the engine out, then replace it with a 2.0 injection OHC + 5-speed box from a modern carlton. lovely.

don't underestimate the 12V engine, only 10% less powerful than the 24V, a truly great engine in my view. 300,000 miles no probs, smooth as you like, and 35mpg achievable if you take care...
I love straight sixes actually.
