Hi,
After a little over 3 years of glorious service it's sadly time to pass the torch to another caring owner and sell my E34 540i6. I bought the car thinking "ha, that's silly, I'll use it for 6 months and sell it" and after all this time I still badly want to keep it. Unfortunately there's a few too many car's I'd love to own and not much time to own them, so without any space to keep the comfy V8 armchair she has to go.
I'd love for this to go to a home where someone can cherish this very rare and hard to come by car so below is the most comprehensive list I can come up with of its key points (including all negatives!) so any prospective buyers can know what to expect:
Start with the negative shall we:
Mileage is around 148,000 miles, (lower than most of the others of these I've seen for sale, but still). However the connection into the dash display is loose meaning I only get an update on the mileage every couple of weeks. I can confirm it's counting correctly so what it has recorded is correct and with all the previous MOT certificates, a reasonable amount of service history / BMW inspection certificates and a LARGE folder of receipts, I don't feel there's any reason to doubt the mileage.
As the pictures demonstrate, the car is not free of paint imperfections. The only notable rust is pictured and is around the petrol filler cap, but there's a dent in the rear passenger quarter, various stone chips, a scratch on the drivers wing mirror, and some trim (the black strips) on the drivers doors which could do with replacing.
The clutch VERY OCCASIONALLY slips, but only ever when in a high gear (low revs) and under heavy throttle. All other times it's completely fine, but it will need replacing in the future.
MOT is due 16/10/14, but I'd be happy to get a fresh MOT for a buyer if they required one.
Air conditioning doesn't work, which is extremely common for E34's.
Positives:
It's taxed until 30/04/15.
Unmodified! I've never ever seen a 540i6 for sale which has retained it's interior and not had it's diff welded. The only non factory item is the exhaust which was on there when I got it. It's a little loud, but I don't think indecent, and it's full stainless steel system and I have its lifetime guarantee in the cars folder.
It's Avus blue, which is a stunning colour.
Exclusivity - Wikipedia tells me only 249 of these came out the factory with this engine / gearbox and the steering wheel on the correct side. And according to howmanyleft only 156 still exist.
The interior is actually in really pretty good shape, especially the leather seats which have the (apparently very desirable) grey piped optional extra. I can't say I'm fussed about it, but allegedly it's a selling point.
The engine is absolutely rock solid! I bought this car because I always wanted a V8, and having owned it the engine has lived up to every expectation I could have. I've never had to have ANY repair work done to the engine and it's been flawless every day. Smooth, powerful, sounds incredible and 100% reliable.
Nice factory features like duel zone climate control, cruise control, and auto dimming rear view mirror.
It has a private plate which I assume is worth some money to the right person.
I've got a box of spares I'll throw in like 8 refurbished genuine injectors which I never actually fitted, decats for the exhaust, clear front indicators, some more stuff which I can't even remember.
In terms of repairs, the car has been fairly good. I replaced all the fuel pipes after a failed MOT a couple years ago, replaced a couple of discs / pads and some bushes over the time I've had it, and about 2 months ago I had a rear strut replaced. But I think aside from those things, the car has just worked, really well.

I've probably babbled on long enough, but I'd just like to say that this genuinely is the most amazing cars I've been in for anything remotely near the price, it blows my mind they're worth so little. It's unbelievably comfy, the engine is just superb, I think it's really cool, the fuel isn't actually that bad (usually approaching 35mpg on a decent run), and its a rare V8 powered rear wheel drive car with a real manual gearbox!
Somebody buy this car and love it forever, if I had the space I would.
