Just wondering if anyone knows much about this. The battery in the Capri (1974 2.0 Pinto) is only about a year old but in the last fortnight has had trouble starting. I don't know if its just that its a bit colder as its an old beast... It turns slowly sounding like a low battery but then does fire up, I usually drive it a couple of times a week, sometimes only once but I drive it all year round. The battery I it at present is an 075 60Ah EN 520 CCA.

It varies, have had a Varta that lasted at least 15 years and a lorry battery that lasted less than 8 months (and we couldn't find the proof of purchase). Seems no rhyme nor reason to it really.

I'll file this issue in the same folder as 'intermittent problems' sent from the '70's

don't forget to check connections and the earths before chucking the battery.

Get somebody to do a load test. I bought such a tester like this - and has proved to be a reliable way of checking if a battery is good or bad.
