In a dilemma I have been offered an '87 Ford Orion Automatic, dry stored for 7yrs, parked in the garage when it failed needing 1 plate on the cill. Now is it worth buying to sell on and make a few ££? Not being a ford man, is there much demand for Orion's? What's a realistic value? If I don't have it the likelihood is that its going to be scrapped  |

get it at £100, patch it, sell it with a full years rent at £495 to someone for a project, if its too big to patch, or rotten you can weigh it in and probably break even  |

How can you not buy it for £100?
As previously said, if it's too much work to MOT, someone on eBay will buy it for the same, if not more. Worst case scenario, weight it in for best of £200.

Didn't see one orion at rrg, they're getting pretty rare. I'd rip his arm off at £100 even if it is an automatic!!

To some people (Agreed, not many) being automatic is a bonus. I would gladly pay quite a premium to have an automatic car over a manual. I have a manual licence but due to health reasons, only Auto's from now on.
Works both ways I suppose, the only reason my truck was not sold before I bought it is because it was auto.

I used to be a manual man but since ive been driving my little micra with its NCVT box I have fallen in love with automatics, infact in the next few days I'm getting a 86 D registration saab 900I shes an automatic too.
but yes for £100 buy it and I agree when was last time u saw an orion? very thin on the ground now.

You may end up buying it and weighing it in. 1987 was the worst year for corrosion on Fords. Apparently they used low grade steel and if its on a 'D' plate it will be rusty. These things can and do rot everywhere. Lift the rear seat and see if there is any floor left, check the edges of the boot floor, the base of the A pillars, the inner wings, the front floors, in fact check everywhere!! Some of the rot gets well hidden and can be missed on the MoT. Storage in a dry garage is no guarantee that rust will not have taken hold over a seven year rest. Humidity in the air is enough to do serious damage.
Worth it for a £50 profit as scrap if you can transport it for free though.

£100 for any orion is cheap so snatch it up, they are getting a bit rare now and as such i paid £800 for my 16i ghia and a further £1200 plus on restoring it, someone will buy it off you and more than likely at a good profit, if you can spend a bit on mot work and it passes then its worth more, don't scrap it as someone above sugested its worth saving and passing on, there is a facebook page for orions only so try on there as you will have better luck finding a buyer.
