These vans have been making me wet in funny places recently and I'm starting to get an overwhelming urge for one, they are to me a much more interesting alternative to a VW camper which have a couple of fundamental problems firstly they are like clitorises i.e. every c.unt has one and often (not always) this really is the case as they getting too expensive to be owned by real enthusiasts. Secondly lets face it, the engine is in the wrong place for a camper van. I don't know a great deal about H vans other than little bits Ive read on the interweb What do people know about these, have people done engine conversions to more modern Turbo diesels because as I understand it they share engines with the traction avant which I'm sure I heard was the first production car with a diesel engine. I was also thinking about lowering one as Ive never seen one lowered before and think it would probably look ace, would it be possible to jam one on airbags or hydraulics? Any pics of modified/lowered ones would be nice Tell me more? Here is some pornography Long wheel base Long wheel base lengthened at the back Uber long wheel base Some kind of funny Porch

Thay are cool. I had a pink one They could be converted to whatever you want but it will be a lot of work. They aint common (they never came hear officially) they can and do terminally rust (what killed mine in the end) The biggest headache will be brakes, they are barely good enough as new, upgrade performance and you NEED bigger/better brakes. They made them from 1948-81 off top of head. The french have wised up to the prices recently. Expect to pay 500-1000 for a project. 1500-2500 for rough but running and maybe usebale 2500-6000 for a really nice one.

They are slow, they don't stop very well. They rust. Didn't stop people falling in love with Vee Dubs...
Love mine but three-speed gearbox and a mere 60bhp does not make for lightning performance. Hopefully it'll be adequate to get us to Norway and back...

I don't mean to diss anyone, as much as I like 2CV's, are people REALLY prepared to pay 6-7k for a restored one?

VIP - H Vans are not 2CVs. They have funny water cooling and twice as many cylinders actually being more heavily based on the Traction Avant.
We paid £5k for our H Van but then it was camper converted (and nicely).
And Ash's link proves that people WON'T pay that much for a 2CV! Has been for sale for ages.

I would have an H van over a VW bus anyday. How much more coolness do they have - eleventy ten times more, that's how much.
Have to say the Pug J van is just plain ugly though, zero style.

I think VIP had been having a poke around the frome site, hence the question about 6-7k 2cv's!!

Like over here... rare to find a decent old 2CV for under 2000 euros, and I see a lot of restored late models or very good original old ones for up to 8or 9K!
