Morning Chaps.
Got a quick question for you, a friend of mine came around last night with some contraption. It was branded a Wizards of NOS thingy and basically its a alloy container, with some sort of pump inside and 2 nozels.
Now the old boy said its designed to spray water haze into the inlet to cool it down, and thus give you better MPG, now this is excellent as the MGB gets about 15mpg on its current setup.
So he said they have been around for years, Second world war infact on fighter planes. My question is has anyone had experience with them/ are they any good.
Its going for free so I may as well fit it.
Pics to follow.

Aquamist was a brand doing these for some years I remember, no idea if they are still going.
They effectiveness of normall aspirated cars is debateable, I expect much debate to follow. I have no personal experiance so I'll leave them to it.
On a turbocharged car they work well though. Very well. Wizard of NOS also do an intercooler spray using Nitrous which effects a greater temperature drop than spraying water does.

Not tried that but apparently rather nice. Like red bull but sweeter.

I think either you have - lead feet or - A problem with fueling/ign or set up

A few things with water injection as we've worked on this in the pulsejet world...
Yes it does cool the charge down making it more dense but it also makes the charge less likely to want to burn. However this increases the effective octane so you can compress it a lot harder without it pre-igniting, hence it works well with turbo cars.
The other way to look at it is water when evaporated from liquid increases in volume by 10 times and soaks up heat energy so if you directly inject it into the bore on combustion you massively increase the efficiency. Injecting it in the right place on a pulsejet increases the efficiency by 50% or more and you can pump in a LOT of water compared to fuel.

Water injection is designed to prevent detonation by slowing the burn - decreasing power. However, it gets combustion chamber temps down to a sensible enough temperature and prevents detonation enough that you could whack up the boost a few more levels and possibly generate more power than you could have otherwise. >edit< What he said ^^ ;D And it does sound like your MGB is running a bit off setting - Single 45 isn't it? I don't remember WON ever selling water injection kits, just nitrous. I might be a bit young to remember it though The Aquamist site kind of says it all:

The car is running a single DCOE 45, the MPG is not really a issue as its only used on weekends. However its been tuned on plenty of occations generally when a new component was fitted, the last one being the stage 3 head, and the lumpy cam. So i would presume its ok, apart from firing on 3 as of last weekend . As for the Kit I think I may as well flog it, I was not going to fit it to gain power just really due to it being free I guess. I think looking at it the owner stuck that sticker on, as it does not look standard. Cheers for you help guys. P.S. My right foot is made from lead

it was used on supercharged aircraft in ww2...
why not just pour some mountain spring water into your fuel tank; you have to be careful using tap water if you live in a hard water area or you may have trouble with your carburettor furring up, alternativly, add a calgon tablet too and i find Evian to be beat anything my tap has to offer.

If you want to give me a list of your jets and the displacement I can check them on my list.
I need:
Choke size Main jet Emulsion tube Air jet Idle jet Pump jet Aux venturi (not critical)
Yours might be a little different than from the book but I'll be able to tell you if one is wildly out, example and most likely culprit being the throttle pump jet...
