Need a bit of guidance . . . I've been fiddling for days but the plugs are still getting sooted up and the exhaust stinks . . . I have twin SUs on the V8 and need some sure fine tuning tips. The pickup is my daily now . . . I have them balanced with the linkages off (you'd need to be pretty stupid to try and do it with them connected not that i'd know of course) The mixture screw - I assume clockwise is lean? Any idea how many turns out would be a good place to start ? Cheers guys and guyettes Rob

Holleys are way thirsty and leak. Weber 38DGAS or DGAV is what you need on a RV8 3.5
I used to pay to have my twin SU RV8 ballanced and tuned by a mate in the trade who knows them well. Money well spent, he could make it run much sharper than I could.

definatly worth getting em looked at by someone who knows what they re doing, mine fires instantly cold or hot and will tick over reliably on or off choke and it don't hesitate or splutter as you open the throttle.
the standard carbs can and do run it fine so don't go spending money on new ones until you've had yours checked out properly.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Cheers - it does seem to be a black art.
I can get them balanced - mixture set (I have a colourtune) and idling but still there's hesitant acelleration (sp?) and bogging down.
Verdict: Get a man in !

Is the dashpot fluid level correct in both carbs? Worth stripping them partially and giving them a good swill out with some WD40 and a rag, make sure they're all moving correctly and without stiction

You can do a lot worse than Nottingham Carburettor and Injection Centre, Crocus St. The Meadows, Nottingham. Yellowpages webby will have the phone no. Or see if someone closer comes with a recommend. A chap I used to know took a TR6 down there and lef thtem just to "sort it all out". He was well preased with the results but I'd have done a slight freak at the bill though, they completely rebuilt everything. Mind you for the owrk they did the labour was reasonable. Anyway, I digress, they are who everybody of note round here uses for tuning and they can still set up twin SUs
