Hello So, up until last monday i had one of these as my daily; Unfortunately, it now looks like this oops Insurance co / bodyshop have just phoned me up and it's written off, cat C. Offered me £3100 i've got a £350 excess Can buy it back for 15% less, i.e. i get the car and £2285. Now, the problem is i already have a drive full of none-running projects/cars but i quite fancy buying it back and breaking it (i've not really any interest in fixing it myself cos it would no doubt end up scrubbing tyres unevenly for the rest of it's life - and it just wouldn't be the same, violated like ) So, anybody any opinions on what i should do??

Break it on ebay?
Or save yourself the hassle, grab the money and run.

I'd haggle them up as much as I coulf "plenty of these selling for £3700" "it was in exceptional condition" etc and try get £3500 out of them.
I think you'd struggle to get a proffit breaking it yourself.

Never take there first offer, there's always taking the p*ss!
Personally, i'd try and hike the price up a little, take the cash than walk away.

if it was anything else like a mundano, i'd agree with the above- walk away and buy something else.
But me being into more modern stuff aswell as retro- I highly rate the satria / persona compact GTi (or whatever they're called) and think it should be a future classic.
I honestly would know what to do........ maybe you should buy it back and drop in a 4G63 ;D

Haggle them up, take the cash and buy another one.
It'll never be the same car even if you buy it and get it repaired, and then you'll have the hassle of having to declare it a write-off if you ever come to sell it on which does hurt value.

id go with whats been said above, nudge their offer up and then take the cash and leave it at that. But do bear thes ein mind......... What use is the salvage to you? do you want to repair it? do you have time to break it?

I'm in exactly the same situation, although with a rough old Xantia. The more I think about it, the more I realise that I really don't want the aggravation. Either stripping or ebaying take some time. Ebaying in particular takes a lot of time when you have to store it and deal with a lot of muppets who make appointments and don't show... IMHO argue and haggle like mad, and take as much cash as you can and walk away (pretty much what everyone else on here has said Cheers Graham

Try and get a bit more from the insurance company* and then take the money.)
* "I'm a car enthusiast and this was the best example of the model I could find after extensive searching" , "I doubt I'll find another in the same condition" etc.

engine's a Mitsubishi clone right? maybe sell off the engine and wang in a lancer turbo? personally myself i'd rip the bonnet off, fit some generic cibie lights, and maybe fit a huge turbo pokeing out above the cyclinder head, sell off the gti bodywork bit's to somebody that cares..

Get a better price from the insurance co and buy it back. Then break it and you will make a nice bit of money from the parts. You don't just have to use ebay to sell the parts.Put an ad in youre local free ads etc use a few boy racer web sites even the satria GTI club or web site. Then when you have a shell left you can weigh it in for scrap.

thanks for the advice everyone well, given the time it takes the board to revolve, i've had a good day and everything but i'm going to take the money. as i don't really have the space or time to break it, and it's the general consensus on here not to, i think it's the best option (99ish% sure anyway ) just got to try and get the price up a bit as i have had it from one year old, full proton SH, oil changes inbetween services, my pride and joy etc etc ;D
