Is there anything special about the oil used with after market foam airfilters for collecting small particles or is there a commonly available alternative?
Just hoping to save a bit of money and an avoidable trip to the local boy racer shop.
Cheers,
Smiler.

Go to your local Bike shop, preferably one that does off road stuff, MX bikes have oiled foam filters...... one of the worst jobs in the world though, filter oil is sticky as hell and you have to work it in to the filter foam..... inside a plastic bag is the best or rather least messy way Have fun

i use silkolene filter oil for my bike. its about £7 for a large spray can but penetrates it well so no need to work it in, also its a dark green colour so you can see where you have oiled it and where you havnt.
like chappy says - hit the bike shops!

I recently wondered this myself, but didn't ask at the time found out the hard way with a non-delivering ebay seller, then popped into colchester and got a 750ml can of putoline spray filter oil. washes off in fairy liquid and is easy to use. spray on evenly, slip filter in a carrier bag, squeeze the bag on a flat surface for 5 mins, repeat on the other side then let it dry for about 20mins. not too sticky, but its very blue! don't wear your best white t-shirt for this job

Ta very much, I will get onto it as soon as I get chance. However, I might now be about to swap it for a brand new K&N paper cone filter thanks to a good friend. The foam filter is rather old and has been fitted (badly looking at the state of the mounting end) to a number of chaved up heaps.
I'll wait and see how things turn out.
