I have a roof cut from an original KG which I'm going to take a mould of when time comes. I'm thinking gloss black. Here's a photoshopped image I did..

	Engine swap! I'm upgrading to an 1800cc type 4 motor. Up until now I've stripped the engine down, checked end float & for general ware. (There was some play left & right on the con rods big end, is this normal or do they float a bit)? Heads AMR 2.0, crank case & fan shroud degrease. Piston ring gap checked, valve guides & seating checked on heads. Tinware painted, Solex carbs stripped, cleaned & reassembled. This took me a few months from the Christmas break. I'm now at the stage of removing the type 1 1200cc from the car and test fitting the type 4 engine. A 200mm flywheel & clutch kit are being posted out from Stateside tuning. All we need are a few warm weekends! I'm planning on fabricating a support bar for the new engine. It weighs a bit more, so feel it's probably for the best. All new engine bay tin will have to be made. I'm fitting the engine with the stock cooling system. This will add 6/8in to the overall depth of it. It's just fits in I believe. Here's some pics..

	Amazing work there. I bet you can’t wait to fire that up. I’m going to have to steal your tripod idea as well. Great idea for a paint rack!

	Hi! It’s been a while since my last post. There’s been some good progress made with the Fibre Ghia. I’ve managed to squeeze the type 4 1800cc engine into the engine bay. This can’t be done with a normal Karmann Ghia I believe. You have to convert the engine to an upright type 1 fan shroud, aswell as other modifications such as relocating the oil cooler & alternator. I was surprised when I got the tape measure out and realised that it would fit, but only just! Here’s some photos; The bearing for the gearbox input shaft was removed from the engine case and relocated to a new 200mm lightened flywheel. The input shaft is shorter on a beetle gearbox in comparison to a camper, so this is a crucial step when swapping over to a type 4 engine. Because the type 4 engine weighs considerably more that a type 1 I thought it would be best to use the original support bar already bolted on the engine and create a frame where the back hoop was originally mounted on the car. This will reduce stress on the gearbox rubber mounts & its bell housing. Firewall & side panels in engine bay were remade. It’s tight on all sides but it fits! The carbs needed another rebuild and initial setup so off they came! There was a blockage in one of the many accelerator pump passages. I also setup up the throttle plates correctly in relation to the choke plates. I installed a kill switch to the fuel pump & digital read out gauge for head cylinder temperature up front for peace of mind. The engine bay was was resealed using some of the type 4 engine tinware aswell as extra sections along either side. The metal membrane is needed for keeping the top half of the engine cool, just like on the type 1. I also fabricated some new bumper bracket supports which bolt to the engine support bar. The original camper exhaust also tucks nicely under the rear bumper. What are the chances!
