Is there such a thing ?
When an insurance company are giving a quote and the type in your vehicle reg they get the details of your car. I have just asked a company for a quote and the details they have on screen are incorrect. In this instance it would actually work to my adavantage but can all companies see the same info ?

You'd be screwed in the event of any claim if the details are incorrect

The car in question is listed on their screens as it is now and not how it was when it left the factory. I have just checked it on an online insurance website and it gives the details as it is now as well. Do they all have the same info ?
I can't insure it as being modified if it already says the modifications are standard if you see what I mean, at least according to the information they use to give a quote.

Just tell them what it is and what has been done. My transit came up completely wrong too.

I have told them exactly whats been done and they don't seem bothered. It's mad, a couple of years back they wouldn't insure the same car with the same mods without an engineers report !
I will check again and just pay up as it will save me about £150. Perhaps I am the lucky 100th customer or something.

After a few more phone calls I have finally got to the bottom of what has happened. The company who gave me the quote buy DVLA information for use when giving quotes. I don't know if they get it direct or from a third party but somehow the details for my car are wrong. I have checked with the DVLA and they still list the car as it appears on my logbook.
In this instance they have spoken to the insurance company and they have given the OK to insure the car for the same price and have noted that it has been modified. Trouble is if I go ahead I am almost certain I will be stung for the extra next year.
I don't think I will insure the car with them simply because they don't seem to have a clue. The moral I suppose it to always check they have the right details. I'm sure if it was the other way round and you didn't disclose something about the car they would make a fuss.

If you reckon you'll get stung for the extra next year just renew elsewhere Granted I only have 4 years under my belt but I've never insured with the same company twice in a row. Its always worth the research each year to save the money

I ring round every year and they are all pretty much the same. The main reason I have stayed with my current insurer is that the car has an agreed value that had to be done specially by the owners club.
Thanks for the reply though, I will ring round a few more companies and see what they say, but by the time you add up the time you spend and the phone bills I won't have saved a lot !

Thats fair enough, it usually saves me around £2-300 each year what with being a newer driver

It depends what database they use, if they use the one direct from DVLA it will give the same details as on your V5C, the cheaper databases somehow seem to guess what the car should be. To check your car is listed correctly on the insurance database use this link.... ownvehicle.askmid.com/
