Total newbie and probably dumb question, but I bought a little 2hp 50 litre compressor a little while back. Paid £100 but I think it might be broke. Hopefully it can be fixed easy enough, or perhaps I'm just stupid and missing something obvious. It runs for quite a while then eventually cuts out, which I'd expect as 50 litres is quite a lot to fill. But it only gets up to about 1.5 bar pressure. This is the model: It seems to constantly leak air from under here: the air seems to come out from around where the wires go in underneath. and there's this little thing which I presume is some kind of pressure valve that has 8 bar stamped on it. Which I guess could be the problem. Can this turn? is this how you adjust the pressure, is it a simple case of setting it up or is this valve likely to be seized?

If you release some air from the tank, does the compressor cut back in to replace the air released?
That 8 Bar things looks like a blow off or overpressure valve to me but I'm not an expert...
Where did you buy it from? Could they help??
You could try Google the make and model to see if there is a manual or more information available online :-)

Hi, I'm a main ABAC dealer. The reason for the constant air leak from the pressure switch (black box with red knob) is the n/r/v pastel. It's a little rubber tablet thing that is inside the brass housing, think it's either a 22 or 24 mm nut. It's only £4 The lack of pressure could be down to the valve plate and gaskets in the head, I can source a service kit for this machine which will have everything you'd need Here's my website.... Www.air-technique.co.ukThere's a link to my new online shop too, which has everything. Air related

Also, does this have a regulator fitted, are you reading the regulated line pressure, rather than what's actually in the tank?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I got it off an old guy advertising it on a local Facebook page. I suspect he bought it, couldn't get it working and sold it on. I thought it was worth a crack and if checked out OK could get me practicing. I'm not looking to paint cars or anything but refurbing small parts, perhaps some wheels and working up to painting individual panels.
There's only one gauge so I presume that's the tank pressure, there appears to be no regulator. there's also no moisture trap so I want to sort that too.
Pork, I'd be very interested in a service kit to sort this out. I'll follow you link and see what I can work out for myself, if I find myself out of my depth (which is likely) I'll no doubt be in touch shortly.
Cheers

I just wanted to 'big up' PORK and Www.air-technique.co.uk for help on this. The service kit arrived, it was pretty simple to fit and the compressor now works as I would expect it to. I actually fitted it New Years Eve, bringing it on to the dining room table, since my wife works in a bar so was out, so music on, beer in hand and spanners at the ready I said goodbye to 2014 in style So far I've only blown up my tyres, but I've built a DIY soda blasting gun which I'm hoping to check out very soon.
