Man I was going to rob the headlights for spares! Going round to have a look at the doors tomorrow as they may end up on mine  Would be great to see yours on the road now it's running - has to have one of the most interesting paint jobs ever, love it! The doors on DOK are pretty sound and the boot lid (although it's a Mk3) is in good nick too so just swap over whatever you need. Got a list compiled now of what's needed for the MOT so hopefully it won't take me too long. |

Cheers man.
Had a look at my doors and it's only really the driver's that's knackered. My main gripe is the silver door trim, it'll never swap over.
Either have to take the paint off the black mk3 trim. Or paint the bumpers black and use black mirrors, could work with the black mk2 plastic trim. Having a black mk1 grille too. Would like to keep the mk2 boot, don't like the mk3 flat one!

Maybe toying with the idea of black bumpers on mine edk83, i'd like to get it sprayed back in Harvest gold next year so I'll probably go for black powder coated bumpers and wheels with chrome trim rings and a black pin stripe to break it up a bit. I know what you mean about the Mk3 boot, the earlier one looks much better, if yours is too rough have a word with Louis as he's got a few spare ones about, have the chin spoiler off DOK if you want, if your going lower it may add a bit of attitude to the potato like shape!  |

My boot lid isn't that bad, just a little bubble. Front splitter wise I'm going for a large one from a mk1 golf.

So managed to get around to doing some work on the Allegrat today and drafted the kids into cleaning the inside for me on the promise of a KFC for tea. So number plates fitted and after a bit of a fiddle about with the fuse box we have all the electrics working, even if the horn sounds like the car has a cold! I just need to sort out some kind of rear number plate light and then I can refit the back bumper. The kids did a great job on the interior as it was filthy.  My helpers who managed not to fall out while cleaning!  A bit of rattle can black on the back end just to cover up the scabby silver hammerite and to disguise the battered rear valance a bit, going to leave the doors as they are. |

Time for a progress report- So the engine runs but there's a water leak so time to get stuck in while the wife's at work and the kids are at school, ah the joys of shift work!   So over time the vibration from the broken bracket has worn a hole in the metal hose. Luckily I had a 1500/1750 engine rad hose that could be ahem adapted.   Rad filled up and water tight. Another job ticked off the list. |

With the engine now holding water the Allegrat fired on the first flick of the key and chugs out into the sunshine.  Now being a teenager in the late '80s early '90s I have always been into house and rave music and probably the best around at the time were the controversial to say the least 'KLF'. A mate of a mate has his own vinyl making business and he was kind enough to knock some out for me. Que the Pyramid Blaster!!   This car has one confused identity! But hey this is Retrorides yeah? So who says there should be any rules! |

So in between work, kids, decorating and spending time with the missus I've managed to find a bit of Allegrat time. So with the radiator hose fixed I was still not getting any water circulation and nothing reading on the temperature gauge, these things are notorious for air locking ( hey it's Leyland after all! ), so I tried all the usual tricks of putting the heater on full and blowing down the expansion tank, the later I did not realising I had a black ring around my mouth and the got some funny looks when I went shopping afterwards!  So with all this in vain I decided to get a new sender and a new thermostat.   Jackpot!! I fitted the new sender and the temperature gauge sprang into life after years of inaction and as you can see by the picture of the stat below well let's just say I know now why the water wasn't circulating! |

So with everything working ( in a fashion ), it's about time to get an MOT booked and hope I don't get laughed out of the test centre, I'm under no illusions that it will pass first time as its been off the road for three years but I just hope that the news isn't too bad as to make me think I've made a bad decision selling my Super Minx and ploughing everything into a strike plagued, square steering wheeled, national joke!   The things we do to keep the past alive eh? |

Maybe it's the Union Flag and the mismatched panels but this car seems to embody a punk spirit of sorts. I find it appealing.

Yes, as autoverse says, I get a punk rock vibe from your Allegro, although, I'd probably lose the American fighter plane roundel insignia! You can have that on the doors and the union flag on the roof... Pick a side man lol, use a British roundel instead! Great car though, keep up the good work! |

Thanks for the comments, I know what you mean pistonpopper and I think the USAF roundels will have to go eventually and I can't bring myself to part with the Union Jack, it just suits the car down to the ground. Faded Punk Spirit indeed autoverse it's a proper '70s survivor against all the odds! MOT booked for next week so fingers crossed. |

So MOT day arrived and the good news was it was a pass with a bit of advice. The bad, well to be honest pretty much catastrophic news is that I'm getting a loud scraping noise from the clutch area, it's a noise that I initially thought was a noisy release bearing but it now sounds like I have a straight cut box with a couple of 13mm nuts bouncing about in there for good measure. So my short lived joy ended up with the Allegrat on the back of an AA Transit. The lad who from the AA who collected it was very complimentary of its sense of (ahem) style and he took a couple of pics on his phone, he then told me about his Nova saloon he has that he is planning on putting a red top in. So I now have a full MOT on a car that looks like it's going to have to have the engine removed! Not what I was planning tbh RRG16 is looking like a distant dream at this particular point.     |
