Just had the Consul in the workshop trying to fix it (turns out it was dying because my fuel guage has FINALLY decided to stop working after 46 yrs LOL)
But it was backfiring considerably when hitting a flatspot on the revs.
Got that sorted now after adjusting the idle and air/fuel mix valve for about 2 hours and is revving sweeter than ever.
HOWEVER....now driving it round the block its 'Kangarooing' while cruising (kangarooing like someone who hasnt learnt to drive).
The clutch has JUST been fixed - new plate and rods adjusted.
Any ideas as this is where my knowledge stops???

(turns out it was dying because my fuel guage has FINALLY decided to stop working after 46 yrs LOL) So you ran out of fuel? Could dirt/rust etc from the bottom of the tank be dragged into the carb and have caused problems?

I was going to suggest a problem related to your running out of fuel incedent, but if you've cleaned all the lines/filter/carb etc, then I have nothing else to offer other than fitting a V8.
