Hello folks,
I was steered in the direction of this forum by a guy on my 'home' forum (ClubGTI) because he thought there might be some Vauxhall experts on here who may be kind enough to help me.
Here's what I posted there:
Apologies for the non-VWness, but I have to try to improve the state of my girlfriend's Vauxhall Omega 2.0 (N-reg, 1996, I think) over the weekend. Being fuel injected I'm fairly clueless about what to try. I believe it's a DOHC engine if that helps.
Symptoms: Was cutting out occasionally at idle, cleaned out the throttle area a bit and saw improvement for a while. Cleaned out PCV hose at the same time, not completely blocked but v. mucky. Then noticed (a week or two later) a much smaller hose going from the top of the valve cover to just below the throttle butterfly. This one was blocked totally at the valve cover end. Cleaned out this one as best I could in a hurry the other day, but couldn't quite finish the job by checking the bit where it actually goes through into the throttle body. Access fairly nasty. Will defo check this tomorrow.
New symptom today, but I think I've noticed it occasionally before, revs seem to go up a bit before dropping, when taking foot off go-pedal, sometimes. (During gear changes for instance).
Girlfriend has seen engine warning light come on occasionally, but it always goes off again seconds later, and a garage we took it to said no fault was recorded.
I plan to do an oil flush and change, new oil filter and check any vac pipes I can tomorrow afternoon.
Do these symptoms suggest anything to anyone? I'm thinking maybe throttle position sensor? ISV? Trouble is I really don't know my way round fuel injected motors...
Any help much appreciated,
Pete
