The running has been getting rumbly and stumbly when hot or damp above 2k revs.
I've been trying to locate a coil locally, but most of the places look at me dumb and say "A Coil, what a spring?"
Over the last few days it it got worse, then yesterday it failed me twice required the AA the help me get it going first, then later even they couldn't and I needed recovery.
The second event was weird. First it died, then after it had cooled off it grumbled into life, then wouldn't rev, then revved, so I tried to move it out of the middle of the road, and there was a pop and a cloud of white smoke under the bonnet right next to the coil and the alternator.
And when the ignition tried to fire and stumbles the battery light goes out so it isn't the alternator.
And it wasn't a backfire, it was a quiet pop, and the smoke just rose out of the edges rather than being forced out by an explosion.
I've got one on order from Rimmers and I'm going to locate a cheap runner until I get it straight, and decide whether to keep it.
