I'm glad I haven't slammed the Panda yet on two counts: 1) The car park at Stanford Hall - get there later on and you have to park in a field like a 4x4 testing ground. I thanked my ground clearance for that one. 2) Had a couple of mates in the car today. I hadn't had a passenger in the back until then, and it was as I suspected. Stock springs and I was getting LOTS of arch scrub. Arch rolling to go on the to-do list. The question is, where do you draw the line for practicality on your dailies? I know some of you have super-slammed rides, and I'd be interested to hear how they cope with carrying anything, be it mates/shopping/etc. I don't want a car that looks good if I can barely use it. What's the usual way? I've seen a lot of the Euro cars have minimal clearance 'twixt rubber and arch....are they just running reaaally stiff springs? In other news - retro is definitely becoming more mainstream. I noted a number of youngish folk rubbernecking as I cruised in the inside lane of the M6 today. I can't remember Pandas getting that much attention a few years ago.

As soon as my back gets willing to join me in action, i will get my manta back on the road (need front discs, and pads, and rear pads + head gasket job, and windshield wipers and then EU-control) It doesnt rub at all with 4 big fella`s like me in it It does, however, scrape the hell out of the middle muffler

the yank above makes me think of the film goodfellas hehe! top stance! if you drive a slammed ride it'll scrape! but if you can put up with a hard ride get harder springs or fit some spring assisters like the caravan towers use! slip them between the springs to stop some scrape, they're cheap too!

I'm not going to go silly low, just enough to close the gaps in the arches (60mm or so). I don't mind a bit of scrubbing, but I can't afford to keep getting odd-size tyres for it. Every single person I've had in it so far has made a 'am I about to die?!' face when it's scrubbed a bit on a roundabout or similar. Hehehe. MadMaxx - do you have any arch work going on?

Dez, if that's your old split bus, then it's risiding outside a dodgy looking car repair place in Plymouth.... It's been there since maybe October last year & doesn't look like it's moved since!

My daily car is a Mk2 Golf 16v, lowered about 40mm or so. It's pretty low and you have to take it easy over speedbumps and stuff, watch out for kerbs etc. but not impractical. No rubbing even with the boot loaded and passengers in the car yet low enough to look good and handle well. I wouldn't want it any lower for daily use to be honest so it's a good compromise.

I know that having a boot that will only hold a weeks shopping is limiting, I am a tat collector after all ;D so is only having two seats! I have no kiddywinks so will only be upgrading the boot for now... For the near future there will be no scrape-age... not really an option due to car and insurance rquirements.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Hmm well my daily is getting lowered next month and I expect it to be VERY low, but i've decided just to get on with it LOL. If it scrapes it scrapes if it catches it catches. It'll look awesome LOL

My Oxford is dropped at the front by about 4" and a bit less at the back. I've done 95k miles with it like that and used to load it up going to and from University in Manchester all the time. It'll be towing a trailer tent when it's next in use and might be even lower! It'll scrape on nasty speedbumps but became much better when I altered the gearbox crossmember to raise the exhaust. The number plate scrapes pretty bad if I can't get up drives etc at a good angle. It all comes down to what you're prepared to live with and how well the car is capable of withstanding a bit of abuse on its lower extremities. You just make detours to avoid the worst of the speedbumps or badly surfaced roads. No big deal

Just to give an alternative standpoint, nothing of mine has been lowered apart from the Cav which wont be out on the road at all just yet. I`ve got a fair few on the fleet now and minimal budget, all I really have on my side is space, for the moment, I have to restrict activity to essential repairs & maintenance and cosmetic stuff, which I can do myself. I cant really justify spending money replacing springs and shockers that arent worn or broken. I like looking at other people`s lowered cars, it does add something to a car no doubt, and can transform some cars, but to be totally honest I`ve never been out driving and thought "I wish this was lowered" in fact due to the terrible roads round here I`m glad they arent.
I`m sure there are handling benefits (the only one I give any real pasty is the Xr4, and I cant fault how that grips the road, oh and the Capri, but I don't want that to grip the road) but if you think it will screw up your daily drive because most of it is over rough ground then maybe you need to rethink.

Slam it first, then plan an appropriate route after.
That should be an RR sticker IMO.

My FD Victor 'wagon (now Canuck's, but I'm sure Seth can come up trumps with a photo) was my daily. Absolutely no suspension travel at all at the front (up or down - really - none at all!) and extension travel only at the back. Lower than a low think from the low country. And I built it like that on purpose! Just avoid potholes. And speedramps. Dale

When I get round to it I'll drop my 121 by about 30mm (Bilstein \ Eibach set up from Amazon Cars).
I know that the back box is low on Amazons anyway, so will have to investigate with edd how to raise it up out of harm's way.
edd has lopped quite a few coils off his Amazon, so I don't know how low his will end up sitting.
Devilishdesigner, nice to see you here from the VOC. I'm jakobandhismakarov on there, but I got a bit fed up of the 'minilite and mota lita' attitude on there.
Plus the photography competition was a scam, as no one else has to submit EXIF data but me, as some snot nosed little turd decided to go through one of my submitted pieces and worked out that I'd broken one of the time restrictions.
I think half the VOC now think I'm a whinger, but no one else had to submit EXIF data and the mods wouldn't answer my question directly.
