My son is 5 soon and loves everything with an engine. I want to get him an RC toy but not sure what to go for.
Needs to be robust, electric not nitro and under £50. Any help/guidance much appreciated.

I'd get him a used buggy and buy/paint up a new body fresh tyres stick it in the dish washer he'll never know the difference and you would get something tuff for very little money..

Thanks for the links usedabused
He has some cheap ones already. Just wanted something with a bit of go for taking down the fields but rugged. Is price range unrealistic?

I'd go for a traxxis rustler if I was you! I started with one at around 7 and only sold it a few years back after years of abuse and it was still going strong, loads of parts for them and can be upgraded to suit his driving ability

I have a traxxas nitro stampede with loads of spares you can have for £30 if you are local enough to Bristol? It needs a little tlc but it was always a good runner and it has an E-Z electric start as well. Just don't have the time to use it any more. The bodyshell is even in quite good nick and has working LED headlights.

For something that will take some abuse (and they can take serous abuse ) Your budget is a little tight, even for used register on MSuk forum and ask some Q's on there they are a friendly bunch and will help and educate you no end. My lad has an Annsman Terrier so I ended up buying a used Revo 3.3 and we go bashing just about two to three times a month we literally go out and rag them until either we run out of fuel or brake something so be warned you will probably end up buying so he has somebody to drive with. www.msuk-forum.co.uk/indexAnd just for the sake of it,

At that age my son had the cheapy Tescos type ones, I'm not sure he could manage a full on race version even now, they're pretty rapid things - you wouldn't want one meeting your ankle at full chat. Battery life seems to be the key, although its not so much of an issue now you can run LIPO's, nothing more frustrating than constantly having to get Dad to swap/ charge batteries every 5 minutes

He has a Reely desert truck (not available anymore) 1/8 scale short course 4 wheel drive, a team associated sc10 short course 2 wheel drive and a team associated B4 2 wheel drive carpet racer. i have a heavily modified reely desert tuck 1/8 scale short course 4x4 running on 4 cells LIPO with an average current of abt 100 ampere, its peaks at 250 amps. This truck weighs 3,5 kilo and does a top speed of 135 km an hour, needless to say its almost not driveable in terrain. Currently i am in the process of building a formula off road 1/8 scale my son just did a small test drive together with the dog, this car is reduced in power (50%) to do a proper shake down and not see bits flying around.
