Further information
This car used to belong to my dad and was used as his daily until he realised he wanted something a bit more comfortable and bought a nissan micra that was "like driving a rolls royce"!!
He acquired the vehicle on 18/03/2002 and was the second owner from new.
I took ownership of it on 05/10/2013 and relived my youth for a while, until the dreaded tin worm upset the MOT man.
The car is completely original and the mileage is genuine. I have all of the MOT certs from new to back this up.
My dad used to do his own servicing so i have a little notebook with details in of what he did and when.
Now, it failed the MOT back in January and this is what the fail sheet says:
001 (71% o/s slow) rear parking (secondary) brakes imbalanced
002 Offside rear brake excessively fluctuating
0003 (n/s sill to floor) Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded
004 Nearside rear (x2) Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded
005 Offside rear Subframe mounting prescribed area is corroded
006 Nearside front Shock obsorber has a serious fluid leak
Reading this makes it sounds like the rear subframe mounts are gone - they are not, the mountings themselves all look sound.
Basically it needs repairs to the nearside inner/outer sill and floor.
The other bit is the rear valence closing panels which have rotted through.
I have tried to take some pics of these areas.
The other problems are new drums on the back and new shocks up front - although it has been stood a while so there may be other things needed.
As you can see from the pics it's got "issues" in various other places: let's face it, it could do with a new front end. But this is still cosmetic.
I'm not going to go through every bit of rust on the car - at the end of the day it's a 20 year old mini that has been used as a daily driver for a lot of that time.
I'm trying to be as honest as possible so here's other things wrong with it i can think of:
It also appears to be leaking a bit of oil from the seal behind the clutch.
It leaks water into the footwell
The driver's seat base has collapsed
There you are, warts and all.
Any questions, please ask.
