Does anyone know if local dumps let you dispose of car parts?
I've got a boot lid with glass in that I need to get rid of but unsure if I'll get turned away

Google your local site there should be a contact number for them, saves a wasted journey!

None of the sites near here take anything car related. I usually end up leaving them at the scrap yard.

I've been turned away in the past. Best smash out the glass at least if you intend trying. Broken glass can then go in the domestic bin. BTW I disposed of a whole, dismantled, three speed Jeep gearbox over a few weeks in the Wheelie bin ! Made tremendous bang when they tipped up the weeks bin with the main casing. Our waste goes to the local incinerator where metal is extracted for recycling by magnet so I didn't feel guilty Don't you have scrap metal collectors coming around at weekends in your area ? Paul H

Paul H In the same note , were i worked as a apprentice , we chucked a old cosworth DFV block and some other one in the grundon bin. When it was emptied/compacted there was a huge bang as the hydraulics blew on the truck . We said nothing .

Scrap metal is scrap metal and is worth money - can't see the privately owned tips run on behalf of the local council round this way turning it away . . .

Not sure about a tailgate with glass intact but our local tip happily takes metal bits, oil, batteries etc, maybe knock the glass out and put that in the glass recycling part?

I have some fantastic metal wombles round here. If you leave anything metal and knackered out front it will be gone by the time I'm home from work. I took out my old bathroom suite and put it in a pile on the driveway. The bathtub was steel so I knew that would go but they took the sink and toilet too. Bonus.

Like Spandelly said I dump any old unwanted metal etc, by the drive way within a couple of hours the resident tat men in their transit pick ups with silly horns have took it. No Hassle no bother!!

my local tip will take just about anything, including car tyres as long as you don't take more than 4 at a time

Do you not have scrap men coming round past your house, we have one or two a week !

We don't have any scrap men come round this way. Bit of a culture shock from when we lived in Redditch and, as with the rest of you, we could leave stuff out front, go out for the day, and come back to it gone.
I did suggest to SWMBO that for the relatively minimal cost of a dropside Transit and my Sunday mornings we could be making a killing. She didn't go for it!

Sink and toilet probably got chucked into the nearest open gateway when nobody was looking..... When I worked in Esher they used to be round the site at least once an hour starting at 6am!
