For Sale: 1985 Skoda Rapid Garde 120
Advertising this on behalf of David McKinney (DaveRapid). As you may well know Dave is the go-to man for old Skodas so if there is anything that has needed doing on these cars it has been done by the best guy in the business.
The particular Rapid is very rare, being an early Garde model. I can think of only a handful left in the UK and to my knowledge there are only another 2 on the road. This example was rescued and restored in 2005. The body was welded up with new sills fitted. A new bonnet was fitted too before a full respray in glorious yellow. Since then the car has been used sparingly and well maintained. It is currently running a Favorit 136 engine through the original 4 speed gearbox. The engine is the only modification. Unfortunately, someone recently reversed into the car and damaged the front wing as can be seen in the pictures. However, a new wing and a pot of paint are included in the sale. Let me tell you know; these wings are very hard to find and I personally sourced the panel in question direct from Czech.
The mileometer reads 38,808 miles and the car is MOT'd until March 2015 and it will be taxed for 6 months too.
The price for this rare piece of Skoda history? A barely sane £1600.

There's a full "build thread" on the Skoda Forum IIRC too, showing all the work that was done. It's been properly restored to a good standard. I've always liked this car but unfortunately just picked up something equally garish but only half as rare (6 left!)

I love this, how reliable would it be as a daily?

Very. I borrowed it to drive from Cambridge back to Aberystwyth. It hadn't been used for a few weeks but I got in, turned the key and it started straight away and drove fine; even in traffic. Obviously, there will be the challenges associated with keeping a car of this vintage on the road as a daily, but there is nothing obviously wrong with it in that regard.

I was sure my memory wasn't playing games with me. I had a reddy/orange one but I presumed my mind was playing tricks with me as I was sure my head lights were not twin rounds or the later big square ones but I'd never seen another Rapid that wasn't either twin rounds or the big square ones. Mine was the same as this, even the wheels were the same but it came with a set of mini lite styled wheels which I wasn't keen on. My dad said it was rare as it didn't have the rear seat tops that had worn through. I polished and cleaned that car with in an inch of its life for it to be let go to someone else that didn't care as I'd lost storage and needed it gone as I couldn't drive it yet. Even though I did replace it with a 92 Skoda Favourit LS which was modified to make it go a bit quicker

Some days you just need to take a grinder to an inanimate object, just to make your day a tiny bit better!!
