So before I'm told to use google or the search button (which ive been doing for weeks and my brain is now cluttered in jibberish)... I will be moving back to the uk hopefully by the end of the year and my collection of awesome drift cars and JDM loveliness is no longer going to be practical as I will be returning with 2 kids and a wife. Not sure how that happened but it doesn't really matter now and I'm using it as an excuse to by another car. So I'm looking for a new car for the family run. I've had subaru wagons/sedans, lancer evos and 4 door Skylines and decided to go for something european as opposed to my usual J motors. It's here that I find myself eyeing up Audi S4 avants (b5 model). I'm reading that people are having turbo issues and IC pipes splitting etc but I don't really see those as problems, more part of the course of having a high performance car in general. What I am looking for is real life experience from someone who has had one... or maybe an alternative? Apart from the obvious 2.7 twin turbo motor, the car is pretty well equipped with decent brakes, tidy interior and most of the toys which are considered optional extras on lower spec cars. Suggestions suggestions and advice please. There are only so many nights I can sacrifice sleeping by staring at the internet!!!

My advice might be a bit patchy as I am a mechanic rather than an owner but I have had 2 friends with the 2.7TT engine, both have blown the turbos up. As it is an engine out job to replace the turbo this is not a small issue. split hoses is far less an issue but due to the nature of the fittings you will not be able to use generic bits of silicone hose. The rest of the drivetrain is fairly strong but there are a few bushes that can fail or become weak and create a few nasty noises DIY polybush kits have been used to great effect here. Electricly there are a few issues but if you or a mate have access to VAGCOM they can be sorted out quite easily. Most parts a relatively sensible prices from the dealers if you cant get them cheap elsewhere. They are fantastic cars to drive as well as being sensible spacious transport.

If you want a big power saloon to ferry the family about in, what about a BMW M5, admittedly running costs for BMW as soon as you put the M prefix in there are pretty bad, but the sound of the V10 would be rather pleasant. Saying that keep your R32 GTR!

Nearly considered an xj6 xjr :/ is this what marriage and kids does to you???!!!

I had to remove lots to just get this picture. Ironic that it has 1 of a 1000 ever produced Nismo forged + blueprinted 450bhp nur edition engine in it and not been driven in 8+ years.

But its soo nice to have and to keep, even if you never use it, just knowing you have it is enough! I have wanted an R32 since going to watch the Thundersaloons race at Oulton Park in the early 90's with my Dad, as an impressionable 12 yr old, seeing these and Sierra cosworths was my favourite race meeting, they usually combined the race meeting with Mini's and to this day I love the smell of Castrol R! I ended up with a Mini not a Skyline!

Try this: How do Bought this S4 avant last month: 148000 miles Full service history 1 owner from new I bought I knowing it needed a lot of bush work, so I ordered the meyle control arm kit and some ap coilovers And got busy made a world of difference and no more metal on metal clunks! (H) still need to do engine mounts, rocker cover gaskets and a few other bits Put some bbs rw504’s on it and this is how it stands now! gold wheels is the only way to go this weekend, thought id fix the problem of the sneaky oil. kept sneaking into places it shouldn't be! so fixings: and did the other side too. Replaced the rear strut mounts as i think mine have seen better days! and exhaust it booked for a week today! decat and a single center box! Cheers! yeah man, proper curse word! luckily the rest of the car is solid, these mounts are prone for going!
