I was given this. As a non runner. So yet another father/son project begins. Drained out the sludge that filled the tank, cleaned filters and jet, reset the ignition, set for diesel and cleaned the magic eye. Switched on and it fired straight up, a bit smoky at first but once it cleared was running nicely. Then things went downhill, the fan gradually slowed down, reducing the output, switched it off and let it stand a few minutes then tried again, fired straight up then slowed down again. Any space heater gurus on here have an idea what's going wrong ? Ttfn Glenn

Just check the obvious first, make sure it's set to the right voltage. Some are simply 110 or 240 volts, others can be either or,and are changed by a switch on the casing.

Thanks, it is 240v only, it starts and runs fine, but after a few minutes, the blower fan slows down, leave it to stand for a while, restarts fine and again slows down after a short time. Ttfn Glenn

could just be the fan is on the way out? Worth seeing if it's something you can find a common replacement for - a small ceramic heater I used years ago, just used a 240v version of a pc fan for the blower. So when it died, it was cheap as chips to swap out

The motor on this is quite a lump, it has the blower fan on one end, fuel pump on the other. Tried it out again yesterday, checked the fan turned freely, then fired it up, ran nicely but does occasionally, flame out for a few seconds, so the sparkplug will need slight adjustment, As it was running, it slowed down and ran at about 1/2 speed, so stopped it, pulled the cover, and tried the motor, it was stiff to turn so either a bearing is tight or problems with the pump Ttfn Glenn

Now fixed and running fine, the trouble was caused by the air pump on the back of the motor. Took it apart and gave all the parts a going over with scotchbrite, Since the pump is made from carbon I couldn't use anything too aggressive. Yet again am going to have to drain and clean the fuel tank as there is still sludge floating around, blocking the fuel filter. Ttfn Glenn
