Oh please oh please go fit a jag V6! :-) You'll love it and will be future proof. Would be easier to keep on the road.. blow an engine up? Just grab another one.

I think the Daimler engine is going to fit better than the Jag engine as from what I can find out it seems smaller all round but I'm not totally sure which of the two I will use until I get them both in the garage and see what goes better. Since I can get a Jag engine and gearbox for next to nothing I'm going to buy one anyway and if it doesn't go in the Viva it will go in something else I am planning. It's hard to see which will fit best until I can drop them into the engine bay on the crane so don't worry it may still happen :-). My gut feeling is that the jag engine will be much more tricky though as I think it will be bigger and especially a lot wider across the heads since it is quad cam so exhaust headers could be awkward, but I will see which fits best and go from there. Either way it doesn't really make much of a difference to what needs to be done to the car in the short term, all the rest of the work has to be done anyway. If I fit a jag engine I will need to use a Scimitar rear axle, weld brackets onto it and make up the top arms, if I use the Daimler I can use a Magnum rear axle and the shorter top arms so that is easier and all the geometry is proven. There are quite a few reasons why the Daimler is going to be the easier choice, another is that I can just use its standard carbs, whereas with the Jag engine I need to fit bike carbs or fuel injection.

Hope you're getting better mate :0) like the plan and will be watching with interest. I'm hoping to fit a type 9 to the 2300 in the magnum but wont be till early next year now. The magnum goes in next week to have a custom built stainless exhaust, at last no knocking or blowing lol i'll post some pics up when its on, also going to have a go at making a carpet set myself, if it all fits ok i'll make some patterns off it and send them over if you fancy a go at it? take it easy mate!

Cheers I am getting better, I should be able to start work again next week hopefully and start welding the viva soon. Patterns of your carpet would be great, I found a couple but they are both around the £150 mark so I have thought about doing my own. How are you going to do the type 9? Will you use your current gearbox bellhousing and an adaptor plate to bolt it to the type 9? Are you planning to go for a hydraulic release bearing?

Hi Angus, wont be doing the type 9 till next year, but got the box and a spare prop. Will be using an adapter plate to fit to the original bell housing and try to use the existing cable clutch. Once i start it i'll get some pics up. Had the exhaust done, top job! full stainless, no more rattles or blowing, sounds spot on and runs much better. Now 57mm bore all the way instead of the bodged together thing that was on before that went from 40-30mm?! and only cost £340 may get them to do a manifold for me next:0) also fitted electronic ignition another big improvement in starting and running. Been doing a bit of welding too, next job carpets. Got thepassenger side sound proofing in, still got to sort a leak on the drivers side then i can get that done and get the carpet trimmed up and fitted. Once its in and i'm happy with it i'll send you the templates.

PeddyP, yours is a saloon not a coupe. In fact, is yours a 1300S?
I had a gold E coupe once and yes it wasn't fast but certainly a stylish way of getting about.

Some photos of my new Viva. I picked it up yesterday with the help of my good friend Nick (his username is Meltdown on here). Not quite sure what I will do with it yet but I'll be starting with getting an MOT on it, it goes for its test tomorrow and I think it will need a bit of welding. I want to make the shell perfect first and sort out any little mechanical niggles but the last owner seemed well handy with the spanners and it is pretty good mechanically so there shouldn't be too much needing doing on that front. I bought it because I just absolutely love the shape and because they are pretty rare and getting rarer. They rust badly like most Vauxhalls of this era. This one is a survivor and I want to make sure it stays used. When I get it back from its MOT I'll post some more photos as I sort it out.

What do you class as a weather seal kit? Magardsport or East Kent trim have most of the seals sorted. (No one does the coupe quarter window seals) You should get into the VVOC pages if not a member and then of course there is the firenza magnum viva FB pages m.facebook.com/groups/162048827165753/?ref=bookmarks
