Bookmarked - good idea to keep the shell standard so you can always revert it back again.
If you decide to keep the engine and want to by-pass the ballast wire it's very simple. On the fuse boax there are two blocks. The front one, look at the rows of holes/pins - they are in rows of 5. The second row back, the 4th pin from the left (D4) is the ballast feed. Take that out and simply move it to the empty hole on the right (D5). That is an ignition live 12v feed. It is that simple.

If Angus hadn't taken it Mike I would of unfortunately I'm just a temporary custodian. I think it looks awesome, and those seats really suit it. (I may or may not have mentioned that before) I'm lucky that I get to see it every morning, am planning on taking some photos of the two models together at some point.

Yes a very nice example as I popped round to see it yesterday and it is smart , and the seats do suit it and would consider getting a pair for my firenza n black would be cool. good luck with getting it on the road , wish I could say the same for mine as ive hit another snag in getting the wing sorted , just don't have the courage to cut it and attempt it myself. lol

grizzCheers for this. Looks like it was a hell of a squeeze to get the v8 in there. Interesting discussion of the modify vs restore to original condition debate too. mactat2Thanks, the one in your avatar pic is sweet looking too :-) I had the wheels off today to check the brakes out and got this photo. They are 13x7J ET-7 Also got a photo of the bit of rust that failed the MOT because it was near the seatbelt anchor. I need to cut this out and make a patch to weld in. I will post pictures :-) And a nice shot of it because I want one for my desktop More pics to come over the rest of this week as I will be working on it tomorrow as well. I have fixed the brake light today, loose connection, and brought the wiper blades home so I can get replacements. I spent a few minutes underneath it having a good look around for rust and measuring the engine bay and gearbox tunnel to see what options there are. Either a Jag 3l V6 and Getrag 221 5 speed box or if that won't fit Lotus 907 and W58 5 speed box are my favoured engine/gearbox options. If I can get the Jag engine and box in there I will swap the rear axle for a Volvo disc braked one, if I go for the Lotus engine and box I will use Magnum rear end with bigger drums than I have now. Either option will mean uprating the front discs too. Or I might just leave the 1256cc lump in there and enjoy 38mpg round town :-) I will have plenty of time to decide as once it has an MOT I will drive it about for a while before I replace the sills, after that I will make an engine choice.

Cheers Angus, mines still a work in progress lol thanks for the sizes :0) that rust doesnt look too bad for her age! I read a post on the 907 which didnt sound too favourable, not sure how true it is but it said they were well known for burning out valves? cant remember wether it was on here somewhere or on the dsg or viva owners site? Right i'm off to go leak hunting in the boot, having trouble finding where this ones coming from :0s

I think mine will always be a work in progress :-) there is a fair bit more rust that will need doing but won't fail the MOT yet. I read a post here which describes the 907 as "a dog quite honestly" but also says that a 107 cam would make it a nice engine. I have also read it is easier to fit than a 912 which is a nicer engine, but either one is going to cost well north of £1k so if I can get the Jag v6 to fit I would rather do that. It would be a bit heavier than the lotus engines but they are really cheap and reliable and sound lovely. Not a decision I need to make in a hurry anyway :-)

Nothing to report yet apart from I built a car port for it and it's back at my house now so welding should commence soon. I had some bad luck recently following a knee operation I had and ended up in hospital for a bit but I got home two days ago so I can get on with it once I'm able to do a bit more physically in a couple of weeks. Luckily I'm on the mend and have no permanent health problems so we should see some progress soon and I will post pictures. I have a pretty complete plan of what I will do now (the benefit of some time lying around thinking) and it goes like this: Weld up the floor and sort out the odd bubbles of surface rust here and there. Replace all the rubber seals around the glass. Swap out the rear axle and swingarms for a Magnum 1800/2300 unit. Fit bigger front discs. Fit a Daimler 250 V8 and Ford Type 9 gearbox along with associated hydraulic clutch and (probably remote) hydraulic clutch master cylinder and custom propshaft. Weigh each corner and fit coilovers. Fit replacement carpet. That lot should keep me out of trouble for a while ;-) mactat2 That looks very smart with the new wheels. Good-looking car mate :-)
