I'm totally 100% disputing the cat c total loss my insurers have decided on for the Cortina
they massively underestimated the pre crash value and massively overestimated the repair cost
anyway, it's all still ongoing BUT it turns out they have already put a vic marker against it on the dvla history check
surely that isn't right?

I believe this is standard practice now to prevent ringing.

When you say "massively underestimated pre crash value" did you have agreed value insurance ?

As said its standard practice in the eyes of insurersespecially when replacement parts are hard to source new Think they just see it as a tin of worms

I didn't have agreed value no I have provided plenty of evidence to show that they have valued the car at maybe half it's actual value though I'm in the process of getting some quotes for the repairs to show that they have massively overestimated there
I can't believe they are allowed to mark the vehicle as a total loss while the claim is still being disputed!

Read the small print of the policy. If you don't have agreed value then I'd expect there to be reference to how they value in the event of a claim. Paul H

I'm not so worried about the value or the repair estimate as the fact that they have marked the car as a write off while the claim is still ongoing
I have not accepted their decision and I am providing evidence to support why (evidence of both the pre crash value and the much lower repair costs)

It's procedure, insurance notify DVLA, DVLA put marker on, then VOSA must inspect. It's to stop you getting another car and swapping the plates over. If you contest it, chances are they'll still want to inspect it, all at your cost.

that is not right
it's all due to getting someone that knows nothing about classic cars to assess my car i reckon
taught me not to ignore agreed value that's for sure!

Someone I know off recently had their classic written off (third party collision). He didn't have agreed value, but argued his case that the market value is what someone would pay for the car (obviously in uncrashed condition) not necessarily what an insurance company would value it(ie old car no value price). The insurance company maintained it was only worth a few hundred instead of the £4000 he was seeking. He then took the company to Ombudsman along with supporting documentation ie current adverts and examples of other similar models that have been bought or sold. The Ombudsman upheld his claim. So I'd say there is something in this. I've always said this agreed value thing is a bit of a misnomer. Imo The car that was written off was worth a lot more than 4K but the owner was happy with that.
