Twas a grand day out indeed. Next year pit passes are a must and sunscreen! The run back down the beach was a sight to behold.

I was starting to think that Dez's truck was like Bigfoot; often talked about, rumors of sightings but only a few blurry photographs. My god, it's fantastic though *n

I love the fact that events like this and that it's kept in period, at least as far as the beach is concerned. It also seems to be one of those places where cars turn out that never get seen anywhere else.

Amazing, amazing weekend. I headed down on Friday morning with Butterz to explore some of Pembrokeshire's awesome abandoned military buildings. Saturday and Sunday = a full and mesmerising weekend immersed in a world of incredible hot rods and a historic beach. A reflection of how good a weekend it was? I've had to spend the whole of today recovering. I haven't even taken my camera out of its bag to download the 1000+ photos I took. It was great to meet up with good friends (Dez, Speedy88, Vilerug,ColonElk, VIP, Hardcore, Richy etc...) and finally get to meet a couple of RR legends: Gotwood and Barrett - it was fantastic to meet you both at last. Fave vehicles of the weekend? Dez's amazing pickup (many thanks for all the lifts everwhere Dude) and the Malcolm Campbell '38 Ford 'Woodie' which was brought along by Barrett. Some photos to come soon....ish.

You know when you was a kid and you saw a model you really WANTED, but dad said no.. and you went into a tissy fit.... I get that feeling when I look at this... This was for sale at £15k. Sounds a fair price, it looked really solid, and Rocket 88s aren't exactly common over here. Oh Lord... I would have remortgaged the house for that. All though I would have stood in angst pulling my hair out Battling the sensible (no room for it, wouldnt fit on the drive...) against the plain old WANT IT! A battle I go through more times than is necessary

I was starting to think that Dez's truck was like Bigfoot; often talked about, rumors of sightings but only a few blurry photographs. My god, it's fantastic though *n its mostly because its massively unfinished, so ive not been whoring it about much, just driving it and fixing issues/unfinished bits as i go.its now been on the road about a month, and its now at a weird point where its capable of a 650 mile round trip in a weekend, its stopped snapping propshafts, but still has a huge list of stuff that needs doing and things that don't work, mostly bodywork and cosmetics, and the gauges(all the harness smoke fell out on the campsite). it got WAY more attention than i was expecting this weekend though, i spent most of my time answering questions about it so i expect to see it start to crop up in a fair few places once the pics from the weekend start filtering through the interwebs. theres also the great game of sitting somewhere within earshot and listening to the 'experts' tell their mates what the engine is out of etc. or the guy who was very insistently telling me it was a 300tdi as i walked round it to get to the drivers side. he dismissed my idea of it being an iveco, although he strangely shut up and went a funny colour when i opened the door, put the keys in and started it....

Here's a bunch of phone pics I took on Sunday. We got there fairly early, before the cars had made their way to the pits, hence the emptiness in the first few photos. 20140629_102647 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_102702 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_102746 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_102751 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_103146 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_104906 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_105655 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_105711 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_105831 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_105909 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_105925 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_110459 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_110509 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_124934 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr Excuse the jaunty angle, this was taken through a gap in the fence. 20140629_135452 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr Spectators parking on the beach was pretty sizeable around 2pm. 20140629_135509 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_135518 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_135522 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_135526 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_135534 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_152223 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_152453 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_152502 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr 20140629_153248 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr I also took a load of shots of cool cars in the spectators parking. It really is special, the variety and awesomeness of what people drive to the event in! This thing was probably my favourite out of all the car park spots. No idea what it is, but it's so cool! Excuse the Westfield creeping in to shot, there were a lot of people around. 20140629_141132 by svenicusminimus, on Flickr I also loved the brown Merc' estate in the background there. Such a unique and spectacular event that's grown noticeably since the first one last year, I'll definitely try and keep getting to these every year!

It was an amazing weekend! Did a load of driving (over 1400 miles in the end, came home an hour ago), but it was all worth it! Spend the saturday on the beach and the surrounding areas seeing all these glorious machines being hammered on the beach. Sorry we didn't get the change to speak again, Dez and the autobahn crew, but we where to busy driving around Brecon Beacons and drinking whiskey on sunday, and when we returned, you where allready gone Thanks for an amazing weekend, and the little ride out in the pickup, i learned a lot about an unknown world this weekend! I will try to add some different pics to this topic after work tomorrow.

This was insane, it was still incredibly loud from the other end of the beach! Also, Gassers really don't work on sand, I'm guessing the driver must have OD'd on brave pills 'cos it was VERY twitchy! Fastest car of the weekend so I guess Gassers do work on sand.

^^^ I stand corrected! I would've happily paid for a pit pass to get a closer look at that. Awesome car.

Thanks for the link, I had a feeling it was Hemi powered. The blower would explain why it was so lairy. Incredibly, the exhaust note completely drowned out the blower whine!

I'll add some pictures i made in this topic, from a complete idiot for when it comes to hotrods. I really like the look of them, i really like the whole atmosphere, the sound of the engines etc. etc. I just haven't got a CLUE to what i'm looking at Dez did explain a little to me when walking around the 'paddock' on friday evening, but there was so much to take in allready! Thanks for the little lesson again, Dez! And for the ride, amazing! At reading services we met up with Dez and when fueling up, it looked like we where heading in the right direction: The noise it makes when you sit behind it on the motorway is superb! I tried to video it, it might be ok, but i haven't watched it yet. The only thing you hear is the whistle/roar from the turbo. Friday evening the paddock was filling rapidly! Some pics of the racing on saturday Back in the paddock When everybody left, and the tide was coming in, we put our taxi on the startingline for a quick picture, and then left the beach, as it was coming in quick! On sunday we skipped the races and went driving around Brecon Beacons, won't bore you with the pics of that. But here is my facebook album with some of the pictures i've made last weekend

Do you mind if I drop a pic or two in here? Rather than start another thread on this amazing weekend... Three shots of Dez's amazing creation: And one that just makes me smile....because I can just picture the noise, the smell, the rush of air, the whole atmosphere that makes this event so utterly incredible.
