I posted a similar job ad on Retro Rides last year but due to unforeseen circumstances the job was put on ice – apologies to those who applied. Now the vacancy is back. See below. Thanks for looking... Britain’s favourite classic car magazine has a vacancy for a full-time Staff Writer to join its spanner-wielding team of rust addicts. This unique, variety-packed role will involve updating and expanding www.practicalclassics.co.uk daily with news, user-generated content and other web-friendly features. You will also write regular pieces for Practical Classics magazine and attend the PC workshop to help restore our ‘interesting’ fleet of vehicles. Magazine/newspaper/website journalism experience is preferred but this job may well suit a talented classic car enthusiast looking for a career change or a first job in magazine and web journalism. Good writing skills, excellent interpersonal skills, plus a professional, organised approach are essential. If you’d like to join Britain’s best-selling classic car magazine please send a CV and brief covering email outlining why you are suitable for the role to mattwright@emap.com Salary: dependent on experience Location: Media House, Peterborough Closing date: May 29, 2007

as I said last time, if I weren't as adept at spannering as I am at quantum physics I'd jump at the chance.

It's times like this that make me wish that: A. I was 20 years younger B. I wasnt a wage slave! What a wonderful opportunity for someone.

I'd do that for a dollar! Actually, no I wouldn't do it for a dollar. I'd do it for £35k + pension scheme, which I fear is -just a smidge- more than the salary on offer. Never mind.

I was going to last time but bad health and a really rough time at work at that particualr stage meant I didn't really have time to even knock a semi presentable C.V together. But I have drive back again, I'll be working on my van all weekend and hopefully re-enstate my enthusiasm in spanner monkeying.. and web monkey work is second nature to me... And I rekon I could do a bit of creative writting if I have to.. Watch this space, I know it'd not be the best paid job in the world, but curse word me would that be the best job evAr!, I'd get to work on cars then write about it Dream!!! want... ;D

Go Dave, go Dave, woot! I think I'd love to write for a mag like PC or PPC or whoever, but I suspect you pay a lot less than an IT Manager's wages and I is a slave to da man. Also some of the tales Nick Larkin once told me about "weird owners I have met on photoshoots" kinda put me off. I'm not good with the general public... if you have any need for freelance ranting and raving or the like, let me know though!

So glad to see Matt has come back over here with this. cheers. I was not sure if (little )Matt got it last time, as i was not reading it so regular a while back. I take it its more than min wage then and a normal 35-40hr week? paying the bills these days is half the challenge

we were driving a scrap Leyland Atlantean II double decker bus round a closed down factory transport yard in Leicester at the time. You do these things and they don't seem odd at the time.

Without wishing to sound like a self satisfied so and so, I reckon I can write pretty well.
However, two things stop me from applying:
1. I have two jobs already, one which pays the bills at the moment and another which will start paying fairly soon but I enjoy and is pretty much a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'd like to hold on to both.
2. Illness and various other things prevented me from completing my degree. I believe these things are important in 'opening doors' which is why the second job I've got now is so unbelievable, given my current qualifications. The lack of degree I will remedy sooner or later, if only for personal closure.
If there's ever a 'contributing writer' post, I'd happily do that for nowt and send you some samples of stuff I've already done.
