I have a V8 Discovery.
Its a Japanese import model so fully kitted up with everything you would get on a premium car. Its 3.9 ES V8 automatic I was using mine for a bit of getting dirty but in all honesty it is to good for it as its never been near a welder in its life and nor does it need to which is rare in itself.
I have had no real issues with it and being a chain driven V8 never any need to change the cam belt, I lifted mine a couple of inches to save it from damage for when I did play much the same reason I fitted 750/16 tyres, but with full leather front and rear aircon its still a pleasing place to be. As for the road manors being the ES and import it handled well, it say it did as I did it no favours lifting it or fitting the narrow but tall tyres but in standard form it was quite happy to corner nearly aswell as my Td5 with ACE even though the steering box on them can feel vague.
You could buy both for your budget tbf as mine was up for sale for £1500 but its been left awhile so am debating on what to do with it currently.
