Are you looking for someone to do some work for you, or are you trying to start another thread with fabrication in it?

I did and he said he's too busy. It's surprising because why would you post pictures of your work except to advertise?

AFAIK Tony doesn't run it as a business he has another job too.
I can do it, i do run it as a business though and getting that level of finish isn't cheap.

The work is typical body rust repair to an FD Victor such as inner wing, arches, sills, bottom door edges, wheel arches in the boot. This would be the same type of metal fabrication that tonybmw shows in his blog. This is not a perfectionist looking for a concours car, but I’ve seen patch work welding simply for strength and I wonder what the welder thinks he is achieving, or even if he cares. Filler and aluminium mesh is no good for stressed panels and re-making the structure must be best for the car, and looks much better where it’s visible. tonybmw's shows that he is able to assess the unseen rust and how much metal to cut out. Tonybmw’s pictures show him making patterns from the existing body work and fabricating a match from new metal to weld in. I understand this is time consuming craftsman work and the price accordingly, but would not be interested in paying a King's ransom because few people can do it. I'm in Essex. I could take the car to be seen to discuss the work and price. Have you any pics please?

Eh? That sounds like you want a excellent job done on the cheap? You get what you pay for etc.

We do that kind of work every day of the week.
Price is based on the time taken to do the job, nothing more and nothing less (other than materials of course). Quality work can't be lashed together in a couple of hours.

Eh? That sounds like you want a excellent job done on the cheap? You get what you pay for etc. Bells are a-ringing. If you want a top quality job, be prepared to pay for such. To do it properly, like TonyBMW shows, will take many times longer than the quick patch job you want to avoid. Labour rates of at least £35/hr for a skilled panel worker should also be expected

I'm confused now, are you wanting it to end up like how Tony finishes his metalwork so you cant see that the shell has ever been repaired (every weld ground and sanded till invisible)?

If you pay peanuts! You get monkeys! simple as, Replacing panels and fabricating them are completely different skill-sets so be prepared to pay, fab work takes time and time=money,

Bobblegut is steering this thread the wrong way. I'm trying to find out who can do skilled body repairs and what the price might be. That's all. Thankyou to Strada, Dez and MrSpeedy for your replies. To stealthsylyz - the idea is have the rust taken out and replaced with metal rather than filler and mesh. Sanding to the point where the weld is invisible is not important, only sanding so the finish is smooth. Is there a difference? For the outside body line, following contours would be important. On non-body line panels, such as inner wings, the contours of the old panel would need to be accurately reproduced so the new metal fits properly. However with a well fabricated non-body line repair, the welds could have minimal sanding and be left visible as on a motor bike frame. If you look at tonybmw's work on the 101 Victor's bulkhead, non-body line, he made the welds invisible though, from my point of view, he didn't need to. How many hours would it take to do an FD Victor door with all of the bottom edge outer skin and inner skin rusted away? Exclude other work and costs for simplicity.
