Drives OKish, idling is a problem, but biggest bugbear is the acceleration. I should replace the rev counter with an egg timer. It would be more practical.
It is ok on a cruise, the leather seats are comfy, the auto box makes traffic easy, and even the lifted suspension is useful, I'm up there with the trucks.
But it is so slow and noisy(not in a good way), I'm getting sick of holding up traffic. Shame really in a way I do like it, but it might need to go back on the bay once idling cleanly.

Don't give up on it yet.I had an idling fault on mine, got some carb cleaner and gave it a good swill out.Runs perfect now.You might find that the slow performance is due to a worn camshaft, which is very common on the RV8.Range rover remedies.com is very good.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Guess it's a 3.5/3.9.
Time for that 4.6 upgrade methinks.

I'd of thought even a 3.5 would thrust a Rangy along

Meh, they only crack sub 10's to 60 in a p5b so in a heavier rangey it's not going to do much.

The 3.5 Rangie I drove was OK to drive, standard they're something like 13 seconds to 60 anyway - so hardly going to set the road on fire.
Is this the LPG one? If so, does the LPG system you have use one of those cooking ring-looking mixers? These make terrible restrictions for the intake system and really do throttle them.

If its a 3.5 with an auto box then they are noticeably slower than a 3.9 manual. I never had any problems with my 3.9 even with a trailer with a car on I never used to hold up traffic.

It is a 3.5, it is an auto. And currently it is running better and smoother on gas than on petrol but wouldn't idle on gas. Petrol idle kept shifting, but tommorow I'm replacing the vac hoses and see what that does. One of them looked a bit shady and probably 20 years old.
Oh and 3.5 efi rangie is 165bhp at 5000 revs. Although the most I have ever gotten it to before I got bored waiting and worried about the noise was 4000 on kickdown.
You get lots of noise, but not a lot of extra go.

I agree - I've got a fairly tired 3.5 V8 Auto Rangie on LPG (venturi type system, with the mixer by the AFM) - I don't struggle with holding up traffic too much... Once you've got everything sorted on it, it should run great!

I think I have it sorted for now. Tried to find vac hoses and a vac gauge in the local motor places, no joy. But I had a thought about the lack of vacuum. The vac sphere had been moved the drivers inner wing, so I checked the hoses were the right way round. They weren't. So the one way valve in the sphere was stopping any suction from the sphere. Surprised it didn't colapse.
With that sorted, I added a one way valve between the T piece and the vac switch. The flap opener now holds fully open until the vac switch releases it. I now have it setup the idle perfectly on gas.
I also added a bottle of lucas fuel additive to the new tank of petrol to clean the injectors, and a can of Wynns to the oil to flush the lifters. With the hoses swapped and the injector cleaner it is idling better on petrol too.
So now I'm a happy bunny, idling on gas and petrol, and sounding quieter on both.
