Hey guys, wasn't sure where to put this, hope it's ok in this section.
I'm looking to take both of my Fiesta's off the road this year for the foreseeable future. I have PLENTY of room at home to keep them, and we were going to build a garage. However a garage built would still only hold one car, i'd need it to be 24 foot long to get them both in, and that just wouldn't work
I'm wondering, is there any reason a car can't be stored as well, if not better out doors using the right equipment as if it were in a garage? Got me thinking after talking to a guy of a prize winning VW a few weeks back who keeps it on his drive "under a tarp"
I have some experience with keeping them stored in garages (which have all leaked anyway). I always take batteries off, spray any chrome/chrome plating with a layer of WD40. Drain as much fuel out as I can, moisture traps inside the cars, open them up and "work" everything, switches, leavers every few weeks etc etc.
I figure a couple of high quality proper outdoors covers would do the trick? Maybe with a good size tarp over the top of that? I figure every time that i can, if it's dry take the covers off and let the cars air. Run the engines upto temp and roll the wheels every few weeks (what I did when they were in garages anyway). They will be on a hard stone surface not on grass.
I know rain it's self isn't what does the most damage to cars, it's driving them in it during winter (which wont happen) so I'm hoping I can keep them good for a few years.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks guys.
