As some of you may know i've sold my old moggy minor to mitch and i'm in the process of doing the few bits of welding i should have done three years ago to get it on the road. The other day we found this little hole in the boot floor. Doesnt look too bad, i thought. Got underneath with the grinder for a spot of further investigation. Ok, maybe a bit bigger than i thought. Tonight i finally got done with cutting all the rot out and i can now stand back and admire this little miracle. And the crazy thing is i'm really enjoying doing it too. I've had more fun welding up this minor than any other other car and i really don't understand why. It might be because its such a basic design and everythings nice and flat and easy to fabricate. Plus its made out of proper steel so i'm not blowing holes in it every five minutes.

minors; fun for the welders amongst us this was how mine was- it had cracked the roof around the b posts because the roof was holding her up! MOT failed on rusty front spring eye mounts only, a little grinding saw me facing 3 months of that gotta love 'em tho!

I'd be terrified if that was mine, although if I prod about with my Bug it would probly be quite bad. Things to do = learn to weld

I had a less positive experience when I spent last Sunday welding the Kadett. Several years ago I paid a 'pro' to weld up the boot under the chassis leg. Was most suprised when I took the wheel off and found a dirty great hole running into the chassis. Bar steward had just plated over it hadn't He. Didn't get home until 9.00 and I'll still have to redo it when I finally get round to a rebuild

Christ on a bike ed! Thats some serious dedication there. Nice work. Funnily enough i was pondering this earlier and i think it might be bmc flavoured. Either an A55 or an A40 perhaps. I just want something a bit older that i can give more of a kustom look to.

Yes, I`ve got special eyes that make floors corrode so best not to look at it too much, that way it`ll stay more solid!

What I do is shut my eyes when under a car, if you can`t see the rust, the rust can`t see you, and it can`t get you or something.

I was lucky enough to weld some old school tin recently, despite it spending 20 ++++ years in a scrap yard, it had lots of strength and reassuring to weld. better than poxy toyotafoil!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Christ on a bike ed! Thats some serious dedication there. Nice work. cheers, wasn't that bad TBH, lots cut out and lots replaced. just it cost about £900 in panels and never get involved in replacing A posts on moggy's, its not a good thing to lumbarred with. i should have repaired the ones on the car. but like you say, its kind of theraputic sticking some old tin back together. unless its bmw shaped.......

Not quite so theraputic tonight. I've had a bad weld day, I'm covered in burns, something very hot went in my ear and stayed there a while longer than i would have liked and loads of waxoyl in the chassis rails has made my life hell. Still, at least its done now. £900 in panels you say? Why are minor panels so bleedin expensive? When i was looking into replacements i was shocked how much dearer they are than say escort stuff. Theres plenty of them still about and a huge parts market so you'd think someone would be knocking out cheap and cheerful pattern parts.
