Ballast resistors. So I want to get around to replacing the old coil on the Sigma which has a ballast resistor. As far as I can see, balast resistors have benifits for cold starting, especially life of points. Some other sites suggest that high revs can also be benifited with smoother delivery, not sure how true that last bit is though.
So, my snag appears where I try and get replacement parts. As far as I can see, balast resistor coils are 6-9V (whereas "normal" coils are 12V). But they simply don't exist anymore.
However, there are 12V coils like this one:

If I bypass the balast system and instead install a standard coil, am I going to cause problems? It should just be as easy as installing the 12V and using a wire to go in place of the balast resistor. Am I correct?
