Inspired by this: I thought; ain't it strange how race cars/non scene cars look soo much better than those trying to fit in to a style: Take ^ sunbeam: There is no doubt it is cooler than an eskimo's :blank: But why? Form follows function.....You find a random car and take it racing. For the class you're racing in you fit a big engine. So you need to put the power down, so you fit wide wheels. These stick out of the arches so you form some flares to just cover the wheels. Less weight = more speed so take off anything you don't need, so off go the bumpers, perspex windows..... Don't fill the mounting holes 'cos filler falls out and weighs you down. You only need one wiper so get rid of the spare one! Your new big engine needs more air, you've got quad head lights, you only need two, so use the spares for air intakes. Racing is dangerous - so put in a roll cage, not 'cos its cool, but it might save your life. What do need inside? A seat, a wheel some peddles and an oil pressure light (maybe a rev counter), nothing more. Stick on a race number, and a few sponsers stickers 'cos they give you some money. Form follows function........FTW. The coolest cars are the one's not trying to be cool. Just a thought!

Without a doubt - the most awesome/beautiful/coolest things follow function over form.

Couldn't agree more. I can appreciate the work that goes into building a 'trailer queen' or show-winner, but give me patina and/or something that looks like it's been ragged half to death anytime.

Agreed cortinaman
I think these look long lanky and stringy with a funny design but they have so much potential, the big wheels and serious customer look of it makes all its features work, very cool.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

The design flaw with Fastback Rapiers is the panel between the door and the back wheel is too long for a coupe (comes from using a hillman hunter estate floor pan) sticking flared arches round the wheels sorts this out nicely!!

Although "form follows function" is nice enough, I am so blasted tired with all the "rat look" "hoodride" "shitlook" propaganda, blasted EVERYONE is nagging people to not restore, to matt black, to do whatever, I mean, its like people with nice cars get looked down on nowadays I know what you mean, it has become a big trend of late. I like it because it suits the way I do things! I think all styles have their place. A no-compromise track bruiser really looks good, and is one of my favourite looks. Metalflake, billet and chrome looks damn fine too!

I prefer spankin shiny ones, the ones with real effort put in, doesnt take much to make a car lighter and look like a racer. I do appreciate and like the look of cars talked about up there, ^^^, but I prefer one thats been looked after, makes the car feel more wanted I reckon aswell.
and people who build cars to be cool annoy me, anyone who does anything to be 'cool' annoys me, why is england turning into america, few years ago no one cared about cool. i want my car to look good, spankin and loved, not to be cool, but because i would like my car to look like i want it to look, for my sake, not for anyone elses, I'm not a showoff, people that are should stop being so idiotic, its fair enough having a nice car, but not if uv got it to be a cock.
rant over ;D

Its easy to make a car look like it was a racer, but its still got the 1725cc wheezer under the bonnet... And in some cases, why not? But thats as much "doing it for the look" as cherrying out the panelwork and painting it 1`00 coast of candy, flake and lacquer. I like both. I like when someone has done somethig because they know it works and is right and is what they wanrt and they have the passion in it.
