in Fiestas. If a Mk3 carried on teh valencia engine (1.1)... this was the small block crossflow that went in the mk1 yeah? (or am i miles off) if i'm right this far... just out of interest, would a MK1 XR2 crossfolw go in (DIY skill level style) a mk3 easy enough? ;D hypotetically speaking of course.

I have a feeling the gearboxs are to big on the newer ones, though someone used to make a reinforcement kit for the bits of the shell that had to be cut out. Other than that, IIRC the engines are interchagable, but the main components in the engine are not. I.E, you can't start swaping cams, cranks etc

Interesting. He might still have the 4 speed box aswell as the engine.... (in theory ) Connecting it up should be no massive deal then?

The Valencia/HCS/Endura 1.3 litre Crossflows were all three-bearing crank, virtually none of the bits are interchangeable with the Mk1 XR2...might be more work than first imagined. Late Mk3 1.6 Ghias had the 16v Zetec though didn't they, one of those would be interesting in a povo-spec Mk3

Its just something that hit me earlier, light bulb moment, as my dad still has my rev happy XR2 engine that was 'enough' just thought it would be nice to bring it back to life in a new shell BTW Fully aware The 'conveyor belt' of jobs/projects has other worthy stuff needing my attention first, but this was starting to look like a perfect match Or course slinging a 1.6 in would kill teh cheap tax bit but whatevAr its an exciting option...

uve gotta take into account that a mk3 fezzer will weigh more than a mk1 so the power gains might not be what u expect. althought the mk3 is a van so uve saving weight on glass for akick off

Well the mk3 would have had a HCS which was a development of the velentia which tbh is a simlar design but toatly differant to the x-flow.
I think the mk3's will have differant driveshaft arrangement/engine mounts/space in the engine bay than the mk1/2 had and therefore you would need to make up some custom mounts and maybe create more clearance for the longer x-flow engine

mk1 xr2 engine will fit in a mk3 escort bolts straight in with the ohv engine mount & it will go in mk4 escorts up to about F reg the mk3 feista ohv will fit in the mk4 escort after F reg the reason is they changed to from a dizzy to dis but if you want to do some rewiring it can be done but you cant swap internal parts of the engine over as they are different BUT as said before WHY unless its cause you have got one there & don't want to spend any money or it is tuned up its not really worth it as its about 80 bhp where a cvh is 96 bhp for the same work (1.6 ) & the mk3 escort box fits both engines (4 or 5 speed ) you just need to get the linkage (you just need to know if your mk3 has the early one or later one fitted ) its the fiesta mk1 that needs the shell trimming to get the 5 speed box in

Thanks all4show, great points Yeah I have one still thats why and i really liked the engine, naturally pondered ideas and TBH the sierras 1769cc cvh that i had put me off cvh's! i think the 1600 is a different beast. So just fancied a mini hot rod van using real old tech! Anyway seems like the 1.1 is quite healthy, i'll post the vid up once you tube has churned it over.... some oil on top of the engine i suppose thats just messy filling. and judging clocks 114k but may be a new engine at some point cant remember the story nudging the carb revver i think cable was a bit stuck so now ticks over slower, hope i havent broke it!

i say leave it in the xr2 and get it goin, mk3s look terrible, especially against a mk1. whack a zetec in the mk3, they don't weigh much, not much more than i mk3 IIRC

XR2 is now dead anyway just the engine sits around. for my sins I always liked mk3 specially the van and xr2, don't worry i'm not gonna do an XRV but is it such a wrong idea? right now yes! LOL

sorry if this question has already been asnwered but cant u put the xr2 head on the 1.1 eninge.
i can imagine the 1.1 being pokey enough for a van tbh, couldnt u just do the air filters and different xhaust thing as see what performance u get thru that.
I'm not trying to put u off the engine swap but its good to weigh up options isnt it.
ive had an idea....... WEST YORKSHIRE ENGINE SWAP MEET!!!!!
lets do it

Haha well thats where the engine is! I was thinking swapping the whole engine (and maybe box) I'm no jedi master or whatever at this stuff but I thought it may be an option, but doing that may mean mucking about swapping shafts and god know what else! for its uses the 1.1 should do, quick DIY service, check those tappets are set, cos thats what ya do with em ya? and a nice filter and wider exhast and see where that gets us. not a bad vehicle to teach teh GF to drive in really got a fair van insurance quote last night. Along with Decent City MPG, and low tax it might be ideal right now....
