I'm trying to find out what the situation is with seat belts in the UK, I remember when i had my '63 camper I was exempt from wearing a belt as there was never a belt fitted in the first place. Right now I'm looking at getting a '59 van (if its still available by the weekend and I can get the money ) and from what I know there are no belts in this one, I cannot say for sure as I haven't had a really good look inside the van yet, but I believe its the case. I had a brief 'google' for the UK law on belts but there I couldn't find any real information on whether this is still the case. Can anyone shed any light on this? cheers

Was having a conversation about this the other day. Think vehicles made before 1965 do not require seat belts for MOT purposes. I've not got them in my Ghia ('61) and I've never had problems with MOTs. Did get pulled by the Police for not wearing one though. How can I wear one if the car wasn't made with them!

Yep, if it's pre-65 and no belts are fitted, then you are not required to fit them.
However, if it's pre-65 and belts are fitted, then you are required to wear them and they form part of the MoT test.

If Hytesta had come to the RR meet he would have been in the conversation too! ;D

Cheers for the replies, confirmed what I thought.
yeah I know I should have turned upto the RR meet, but I had to give out almost 2k to a builder the week before hand as I had new windows fitted. Lack of cash and just trying to survive the rest of the month.

My Nymph is registered as a '63 so dosent have seatbelts. The car also dosent have doors or grab handles which makes being a passenger interesting when going round corners!!
