It's with a heavy heart we have to move on our 1303. It was a daily driver until it failed it MOT yesterday (no current mot now). With a 66 bug resto that has taken me 6 years so far I don't have the time to put into it, so hopefully someone else will.
It failed on:
-Handbrake not working, the cables were stretched and in his enthusiasm to pass the mot the tester pulled too hard and snapped one or both. I do have a pair of brand new cable to go with the car though.
-Horn not working, it was no idea why it no isn't (haven't looked if I'm honest)
-Both headlamps aim incorrect
-Rust in floor near brake master cylinder
-Exhaust leaking
-Fuel hose rubbing on steering linkage
-Indicator dash light not working
-OS tie rod end worn
-NS tyre below legal limit
-Rust in subframe area both sides at rear, this is the worst part. There are holes in the corners of the rear floorpan/jacking point/crossmember area both sides, previously been repaired but obviously by some blind chimp in the past. I do have a jacking point repair panel to go with it but no floorpan panels.
It is also a late 70's bug that has the usual various bubbles, rusty bits etc but you can see from the pics it looks nice after a polish, pics were taken an hour ago so arent 'library' pictures.
Enough of the doom and gloom!
It drives very well, in the past 20 years I've honestly not had a bug with such a good engine, gearbox is doing its thing as it's supposed to and it stops on command. Comes with a CD player pre installed (you're welcome) that plays through speakers in the car.
It had a brand new OS front tyre a month or so ago and the rears still have loads of tread on them
Lowered 3" at the front, stock at the back.
We have a key, maybe 2 if you're lucky (don't get your hopes up though)
Still taxed until the end of August 2014
Pics, we'll get the nasty bits out of the way first
Hole in OS rear
from underneath before I got a bit pokey
Hole in NS rear
Underneath
Shiny pics to make you feel a bit better about it
I'm after £1000 or a swap for a MK3/4 Golf. Car is in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire (DN21 1TY) and will need trailering away due to no current MOT, you can drive it away but on your head be it and I accept no responsibility for your law breaking antics!
