Hi all. Ive been a regular visitor to this site but this is my first memberised post  Ive been a massive Audi fan since a boy, Ive had most petrol engine variants includimg the 5 pot 20v turbo in URS4 form. Currently I'm running a 1993 80 coupe 2.6 v6 and quite smitten with it. However, having to do more miles for work meant fuel costs were getting silly, so I hatched a plan which involved resting the V6 for show seasons only, and maybe swapping the engine for the 2.8 30v version. The second part of the plan was to buy an 80tdi as a daily drive, and blend the best of looks from the RS2 and S2 to make it stand out of the crowd a bit. So last month I bought this, drove it home 100miles with no real problems. Then a week later the turbo letting go. So, my mate swapped the turbo over for a replacement, had to change the downpipe as the turbo was slightly different, including the returning oil pipe underneath. Then 2 days later the replacement turbo pops....and I realise thay the oil pump is dead. I cant put into words how gutted I am, but I am lucky to have good mates who give a damn, and they are offering to help. So I now find myself planning to purchase another block, and probably new head and turbo. I cant think of a better opportinity to look at reliable engine and turbo upgrades as the car is way to good to scrap. Any advice, thoughts and suggestions most welcomed. I don't want to go down the v6 diesel route, but upping power to match the v6 at 150bhp, with better economy, is very tempting. I would be very grateful for your views. cheers ahain virgin tdi user Ps...this is a pic of my mates 80quattro with 1z converstion....very clean car and install.

That is a tidy coupe and estate considering they are both red the paint is in good nick, so guess the coupe is back to being a daily drive, i'd be incline to just get a replacement motor to get it back on the road again.

Cheers all Ive now managed to source a good block and cylinder head, so the old one can come out for refurbishment at a later date. Never done an entire replacement before so looking forward to it.

I have a 1z 1.9tdi powered mk3 golf, i fitted a pd150 inlet manifold (From a passat as its angled the right way) and flows sooooo much better (no smoke) cut slots in inner wheel well so intercooler air can flow better, and ran some forte cleaner thru it so far. Its alot quicker and great on fuel, My economy thingy below is average with a knackered thermostat which is bad for economy in a tdi. Now its got a new one I'm getting loads of miles per tank, Less smoke but more poke Next job is to fit my 205 injectors and decat it, Plus possibly a front mount intercooler. the 1z / ahu is an amazing engine. And stupidly reliable. Ive just fitted another one in my 1997 t4..

Can I ask, was it the Arl 150 pd manifold you used? Sounds like a good upgrade

Looking at the orientation of your motor, and arl one would work , i think You could use this manifold www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vw-150pd-arl-diesel-manifold-/141305697525?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20e679d4f5Although the one i used has the inlet facing the other way as it came off a 150hp passat, usefull on a golf as the induction from the intercooler comes from the passenger side. They are identical appart from that. Your inlet comes from what would be the drivers side if your engine was in a golf.... Its loads cleaner inside, no right angles just a nice flow, helps burn all the fuel so not wasting it in black smoke. That said, some bigger 205 injectors will give even more power although a little smoke back

Thanks so much for the info, really appreciate it. Bigger injectors sounds like a good plan too...I think I will start collecting all the upgraded bits over the coming weeks. Trying to be sensible as I'm doing this on a modest budget. I'm looking forward the collecting the replacement block now

The coupe was originally laser red, but was resprayed tornado red by the previous owner. Interestingly he also laquered it, I'm convinced thats why the pigment has kept so well. The tdi is lazer red, and i used a bucker of G3, dodo juice and mquiers colour restorer to get the colour back....have to say though it was worth it

Hi all. Infortunately I had to sell the tdi. I had spinal surgery 2 years ago and my back problems flared up a few weeks ago, probably due to me moving engine parts around....so sold it week before last....totally gutted but health comes first. Ive decided to go to town on the coupe, and enjoy it for what it is...a touring smoothy. I colour coded the sills, took my time to do a proper job. No cracks or runs and plenty of laquer to help protect it. I need to order a new set of covers for the lower doors, hope they arent nla. Put my old german badges back on, imported these from the USA, lovely quality. Recent hot weather helped bake the paint Also got round to fittong a 15 year old alpine head unit, and spruced up the dash.. Next on the list is colour change for the alloys, spacers on front hubs, detail the paintwork and respray the rear bumper. Also looking for new leather door catds and rear sear. Fianlly need to change the windscreen due to lamination on the sides. Mechanicay, going in next wednesday tobjave rear disks, pads and wheelbearings plus replacement alternator. Thanks for reading

Thanks, I really like the clocks with the carbon surround. I don't want to put to much carbon wrap, just enough to spruce it up a bit.
I cant decide what to do with the alloys.
I like white, but PITA to keel clean. I also like gunmetal/ black but worried it wil be to dark for the car. I also like silver, but not whats on the alloys now its too dull and stains easily.
Ive got the original speedlines to go back on while I sort the tsw's so can do a proper job myself.

Really looking smart now with the lower painted, clocks look good have you done the three in the centre stack?
Oh you can still get the rubber door bottoms think about 150 quid for all the rubber bits going to do mine when l get back to the uk and propley seal up the steel part so it does not rot again, mind you they are 20 years old.
Need to sort an oil leak on my V6 think it's from cam covers :/

Hi all Been absent as the tdi's engine died on me on the way to the MOT! So I reluctantly sold it on to another enthusiasts whos car which went through the hedge! Instantly regretted selling it, feeling got worse when I ended up selling the coupe which to be fair has now been truly sorted by its new owner...hrs a pic the new owner sent me... So, missed not having an 80 in my life, so recently got this and all is well again. Very clear on what I'm doing with this one, lowered, deep dish alloys, s2 bumpers and ellipsoid headlamps. Inside she will be treated to a new leather steering wheel and proper ICE and thats it, I don't think it needs anything else;) Retro rules cheers Dylan
