SOLD ********
An extremely solid and reliable G60, always driven with the utmost mechanical sympathy, it has had a few choice (reversible) upgrades to ensure reliability and improve performance, all of which are reversible if you want to go back to original. Never driven in the rain, my Golf G60 has always been a 3rd or 4th car, so has never done many miles per year. Over the first few couple of years after I bought it I put a lot of money into the car, (nearly £2k spent at Awesome GTI alone) but it did spend 7 years in my garage with a gearbox issue - family issues and other daily use cars had to take priority. Early last year, a friendly Awesome Gti mechanic got it back on the road for me, it then passed its MOT needing only an indicator repeater bulb! Has past its MOT again this year needing nothing doing (advisories for rear brake pipes though).
Over a normal 8V, a G60 comes as LHD, with a bonded windscreen, stiffer shell, wider transmission tunnel, wider wings, bigger 280mm brakes with ABS, etc.
Its only done about 5000 miles since its big expensive service and refurb at Awesome, (including the supercharger sent toJabbasport), less on the clutch, discs & Pads and only a hundred or so on the refurbished gearbox.
Things needing improvement:
See pics
The dent in the front wing, (no paint is broken), I always thought it was well positioned for a cold air intake, but never wanted to cut the wing! I bought it like that.
Although absolutely solid, there are various scratches on the car, and the leading edge of the one of the rear doors has got a bit of surface rust on it.
Oddly the headlining at the back of the car has just sagged, although I may have fixed that before the car is sold.
Good points & upgrades include:
Driving this car is a bit like driving a magnified 8V, there is loads of torque, it just charges off down the road, you change gear, and it charges off again. Great fun.
Very solid car, very original, still has the original warning triangle, the weird squishy bag thing in the boot, original paint inspection label from 1990, etc, etc
Jabbasport stage 4 supercharger and corresponding chip.
Jabbasport Golf mk4 gearbox conversion – original gearbox available. This conversion reduces the gearing (over the long geared original 02A box), so that the car better suits British roads, meaning it accelerates rather well! The 02J gearbox has just been stripped down, cleaned, checked , etc, so it is now like new inside. Clutch is almost new, was double-checked when the gearbox was put back in.
Mocal 13 row non thermostat oil cooler. I believe this to be an essential G60 upgrade, it means the oil temperature never, ever goes above 90 something degrees, therefore oil viscosity always stays in the oil manufacturers recommended zone. Also, because, its non- thermostat, the oil temperature is always consistent to protect the supercharger. Originally installed by Awesome, it now runs with bespoke armoured hoses. Original oil/water cooler and piping still in place, so if you were slightly insane, you could remove the Mocal and it would be straight back to the original layout.
Golf Mk4 rear brakes with the correct Goodridge stainless flexible hoses
I bought it from the guy who imported it (he was married to a German woman, and also brought in a Boxster). I have all the original German logbooks, owners manuals , etc, except for the service book that was lost before he bought it. Service stickers are on the car though, so you can tell it was looked after, and since I speak German, I can read the receipts and things that also came with the car. All receipts and MOT certs, etc, from my ownership are available.
Reasons for sale include: I’ve had this and my previous 8v for 20 years, so time for a change! LHD just doesn’t quite sit right for me for occasional use only. However, I have as many reasons for keeping the car as selling it, so whilst I am happy to negotiate near the sale price, please don’t think you can come in and low- ball me.
I think it’s priced at the low end of things , but it needs to be sold reasonably quickly, or I will simply keep it forever.
Overall, it’s a fun, fast original slice of VW Golf history which will only appreciate in value, you can either put back to original, enjoy as is, or modify to your heart’s content.
Please contact me only if you are seriously interested.
