Right,
This was an idea I had whilst bored out of my fugly mind at the second job today, so this might not go down brilliantly, but.....
I have a fully equipped studio in Crewe and a bit of/ a lot of a student radio background.
We could.....
Produce a podcast or show full of stuff about retros, in a magazine format or something, with music about cars etc.
Here's a few debate type topics I've had ideas for so far.
1. Scene Tax 2. Loss of Retro Cars (why oh why, interviews with publishers etc) 3. Proposal to scrap all old cars (interviews and debate) 4 . Banger racing 5. Guess what car is making that noise (sad) competition 6. Debate on environment (just watched 'Who Killed The Electric Car' and I reckon classics make a kind of enviromental sense in that by contiunuing to run them we're not having any other vehicles produced?)
It could be in a radio format (DJ & guests) or any other setup - open to suggestions, between 30 mins and an hour long each time.
There is also a slight possibilty I could get Cheshire FM involved if things are successful to develop things for a programme......
If anyone wants their recording for imaging packages, competition purposes etc, than please reply!
I think this could work - what do you think? I could easily produce everything, set up the interviews, mix everything down, produce the imaging etc etc, it just needs people to chat about what they love and one other person to help me edit all the audio!
Yeah and we'd either have to go to Bailrigg FM (Lancs) or Cheshire FM (Winsford) to record the phone interviews, I don't have provision for that at the studio, unless we just record our interviewees through an FFT filter or at a really low sample rate!
The only thing we'd need is to host it somewhere. 50MEGS? Myspace?

In principle this could be a good idea. However for whoever does it it would be a lot of work, producing a fact-based radio show on a regular basis takes a lot of effort. That said a well-executed podcast would be an extremely potent draw to this site and could generate a significant Adsense revenue, not to mention PageRank benefits. Perhaps Hotwire might consider it in the event that he move the board away from the proboards hosting.
Content? A good place to start would be the board itself. After all what we talk about on here is what the wider population of enthusiasts talk about.
Hosting? How about a bittorrent?
Just a few thoughts from a long-ago ex URH member and search engine marketing specialist.

Thanks everyones for the replies so far.
I'm well aware of the work involved! I read the news on and off for a web based station and I used to edit interviews for the music team at uni before I got ill, and the workload involved in those two tasks is a lot less extreme than producing a magazine show!
I'd love to do it though. I have all the equipment, I just need a few like minded individuals to come down to the studio in Crewe and debate like mad on some key topics (the ones I suggested were culled from the General Board anyhoo).
Obviously though, I won't do anything without Hotwire's say so. Does anyone know what he thinks? I was going to propose a trial period with a few people, get some basic imaging \ topics produced and recorded, and put it out as a link for everyone to listen to and take it from there based on the response we \ I got.
Really don't wanna have to play 'Little Red Corvette' though.

It has crossed my mind yeah.......
I just wanted to do the debates with other members of RR - it's just not the same if it's just me jabbering on.....
Anyway, anyone who wants to get involved in a TRIAL podcast (pending hoTwire's permission to use the name) PM me and we can sort out some kind of date, content etc.

Going to start writing some features for this towards the end of this week \ start of next week.
ATM it's just me, the imaging lady and my mate J who I believe posts on here, don't know his screenname though.
As everm if anyone wants a say, PM me with a list of times you can do in the coming week (s) and you're in.
I though mrbollox might be up for it seeing as he's in crewe.

It does sound like a great idea...and the thought of an R-R podcat has crept in my own thoughts before. I suspect the distances involved for me would count me out. Plus the fact that my days of radio are a thing of the past, something which I was quite happy to leave there too, although this is a temptingly good idea.

Nice idea, and I agree that Podcasting would be the ideal medium. I'm guessing that events like the Bromley Pageant or even the RR Show could use these for promotionals or even to broadcast on show days slipped between the other 'tannoy' content.

It's a good idea. But maybe it needs a bit more thought. Maybe a schedule or something. With someone doing different shows once a week or once a month. Also not just songs to do with cars. We could have like the Top 10, 80's, 70's, Classic dance anthems, Rock stuff like that. We could always use it to advertise shows and meets.
how about helping people to find the right retro. And a buying guide to certain cars. It's just a few ides....

Don't forget the thugsurfdeathgaragerock :-) This sounds great, wish I lived a little closer so I could help!! Wish we had public access TV, it could end up like Wayne's World, with cars

Minimad,
Fair comment. Likewise lankytim,
I don't want to build this up too much in case people get over excited and then disappointed when I finally deliver it amid other work projects.
If people want to PM or e mail me any events that want advertising (MM, I really didn't think of that), I'll pass it to my voiceover lady who can make them sound like the shipping forecast in between bouts of music.
FTM I don't want to bring too much music into it. I wanted the podcasts to intially be for current affairs rather than music based as well, because then it just turns into another podcast \ web radio station,
And youse lot REALLY don't want to hear the type of music I like, unless you like a lot of Boredoms \ Fugazi on heavy rotation. Then some Catherine Wheel.

an rr podcast would be ace. the best thing is that even if the main contributor is in one place (crewe) other presenters can contribute via skype. You can even run live contributions via services like talkshoe etc. I guess a weekly or bi weekly pod cast wouldn't be "too" hard. Plenty of people on here with plenty to say. Vidcasting a bit more involved I'd say.
