I keep thinking about it and i've had the car for a year so i should probably make the 1.1 Mk3 an Essex General Lee Does anyone know a good but not expensive set of Dixie Air Horns? I know some of the cheap ones are out of tune but i don't know if they all are? also i know some makes can be fired all at once to create a 5 note blast. Anyone have any info? Ebay is just overwhelmed with red plastic horns! Thanks Chris

they seem tricky to find in the UK and find examples. I'm surprised that no shops stock them. Found some Maserati ones but they don't play Dixie.

They aren't legal for UK road use so that is probably the reason why difficult to find. Strictly per "the letter of the law", as below, unless fire, ambulance or Police vehicle it's even illegal to have them fitted but doubt you'd get caught unless using such on public road.
Regulations 37.4, and 99.4 Construction and use regulations. PNLD references. D2574 & D2576
37.4. No Motor vehicle shall be fitted with a bell, gong, siren or two tone horn unless it is for fire, ambulance or police purposes.
99.4. No person shall sound or cause to be sounded a bell, gong, siren or two tone horn, fitted or otherwise carried on a vehicle (Whether stationary or not)

So I should be safe (apart from the decibels) with one of these on the Goddess If anyone is interested in the original 'nee-nahh' emergency horns then PM me.

i bought one off amazon that everyone seemed to say was ok. its probably not going to be that great but its just for a laugh.
Can you modify them to fire all at once? I'd like all 5 to sound as a quick blast?

With multiple horns i.e. more than 2 it is also debatable whether the law would actually cover them as it specifically states " two tone" & which refers to alternating high/low notes & resembles emergency service sirens & certainly can't be classed as two-tone a multiple, note music playing set ; even though years ago the coppers would always try it on if they thought that they could get away with it.

My thoughts too. If it can play Dixie, then it has at least five tones so therefore must be fine in the eyes of the law. Don't go fitting a gong though Edit: do ice cream vans get a special dispensation then or do chimes not count as gongs or bells?

Unless the law has changed recently multi tone (musical) horns are leagal pre 73, it's been that way since the early 70's ?? Duel tone (high-low) are illeagal unless they sound at the same time (every Ghia ford made since 1973 has had duel tone horns that sound st the same time). As already said finding a decent sounding set it getting really hard, they chinese are apparently tone deaf

If you want dixie horns, you will need a decent sized compressor the ones they come with (Off fleabay) run out of breath, Always wanted a BIG Train horn, but you need 24 volt running rather like lorries use it can be done, just need the right sized big ass compressor running off 12 volt
