I'm thinking maybe rather than maybe buy a new car, Throwing a few pounds and my mgb. A V8/V6 would be nice or maybe something with a turbo. 200bhp would be great. Manual box would be a must.
What would you think would be the easiest swap?

Have thought of both of the above, Dident think the v6 would make over 200 bhp like the sound of that. would a standard 2.0 sierra box fit that engine?

Apparently the Rover T16 can be bolted to the MGB gearbox, but I doubt the gearbox would be man enough to cope and I think there are clearance issues with the oil filter. It's been done with a Sherpa gearbox, keeping most of it British Leyland/Rover too.

Gearbox is surprisingly strong, its the OD I would worry about. Ford Zetec, MX5, GM V6 are all done routes (I've done the MX5 route myself). Just pick the donor with the most "Speed/Power" mods to the engine I suppose, in my case I just wanted a little more power but mostly better daily capabilities.
Just take all the "it only takes 3 wires to run the engine" comments with a pinch of salt. The B's bay is geared up for V8 (esp RB) so space wise is not really a big issue.

For me it'd be an RX8 Renesis rotary, circa 230 bhp, cheap donor cars, small so 'easier' to fit Just be sure to get one thats not knackered... Otherwise, Rover M/T series should in theory be the 'easiest' swap, the gearbox should be fine with the N/A 140bhp model, might be marginal on the 200bhp turbo version. V engines will be easier with a RB B as the engine bay shape of all models changed after they started fitting the V8, narrow angle V's may be doable.. I've heard that a VW VR6 engine can be made to mate to a diesel Volvo 740 gearbox using a Passat V5 backplate

I reckon a Zetec and Type 9 would be a good swap. 150bhp would be nice in a B, fast enough to be fun, yet practical enough to use as a daily.

Mazda kv6 in 2.5L format. Compact, lighter than the b-series, plenty powerful enough, and has been fitted to RWD cars often enough to know that it works.

1UZFE from an LS400 ?? complete cars with mot can be got for £500. 230bhp - 280bhp 4 speed auto silky smooth. Sound nice once you loose the cats and add glass packs. never go wrong either.

I'd rather loose by a mile cause I built my own car than win by an inch because someone else built it for me. Your car is your story, so don't let anyone else write the book.

Probably not the best suggestion here, but I would like someone to stick a tuned 'L' series turbo diesel in one of these.

Theres not many engines that manage to be heavier than the B series the V6 is a good shout though, I remember looking into them to see if an Mx5 gearbox would fit, I seem to remember something about using an RX7 bellhousing..

Lots of combos i hadent thought about so far. Think top 2 so far is either the vauxhall red top of the v6 cosworth, Just a mater of finding the right boxes and other parts. In don't expect the standard rear axle and wire wheels are going to be to happy either.

This engine was jointly developed by Mazda and Suzuki, and was designated 'H' series by Suzuki. They were fitted in the Grand Vitara with a RWD box already nailed to it- just remove the bolted-on transfer box.

In don't expect the standard rear axle and wire wheels are going to be to happy either. The wires weren't happy when new with the MGC 6 or the detuned V8 as they were never a factory option on the original 6's or V8's - thats the same reason you couldn't get a factory MGC soft top, they were worried about the shell flexing with the additional power/ weight
