I bought this as a working car, and 'borrowed' some bits for another project. It's an MSA Log-booked rally car, but without an engine and box.
That's done, I've tidied the car up a bit (new lower front panel - a bit bashed from rallying - a bit of panel beating, and a respray, and it's now for sale as a rolling shell. It'll make a great track or competition car for someone, but it's never going to be a show car, so if you're after a nice comfy road car or mint show car, this is not for you.
As it's a rolling shell, it needs to be trailered, but I've just got my tow car back on the road and can deliver within sensible distances (up to 100 miles-ish) for fuel costs, as long as the car is paid for up front.
Basics
- Seam welded shell and 6 point Safety Devices Roll Cage, with door bars. Originally built for Slick 50 saloon car racing but never ran. Bought by a rally driver and used as a rally car and rally cross car for about 10 years.
- Koni Suspension
- Bucket Seats and Harnesses - out of date but still very usable for track days, and probably some forms of competition.
- Plumbed in and hand held extinguisher
- Polycarb Windows all round (except front screen)
- Fibreglass bonnet
- lightened doors and lightweight Ally roof panel.
- Disc braked rear axle and adjustable bias.
- Single wiper conversion
The car is without an engine or gearbox, and it's currently sat on stock Mk1 discs, but I have a set of G60 front brakes that can go with it, or Audi S2 brakes if you prefer.
I do have some spare engines, heads and so on, if you want to talk about them separately.
It was originally a 1.6 GTI on an X plate. It's a small light rear panel. The car is straight and solid as far as I can tell, and hasn't been a road car for many years, so has seen a lot of winter salt.
It's 'lived a life' as a rally and rallycross car, and has had a few dings from competition. The front passenger wing and driver's rear corner are the worst bits, and the windscreen scuttle isn't great. Other than that it's fairly presentable, but it's meant to be used and abused, not sit around at shows.
I drove a trackday in the car before I started to pull it to bits - at Llandow in the pouring rain - and the handling was great. There are no signs of it having been in a roll or a big accident, and it drives properly so I'm pretty sure it's straight, other than the cosmetic dings.
Add an engine, gearbox and fuelling of your choice and you've got a fun trackday car or can upgrade it to a competition car.
If you want to remove bits like the extinguishers, seats, wheels, and use your own I'm negotiable on those. I'm sure I can use them for something else. The car currently has 4 near-new Yoko Parada Spec 2 tyres on it.
All the front lights and indies are with the car, as is the grille but I haven't fitted them back on, since I took them off for the respray.
Drop me a PM if you want more info - I'll add a full pic of the driver's side - I didn't realise I hadn't taken one, but I'm not hiding anything there! Viewing evenings and weekends in the Bracknell area. Obviously you'll need a trailer to get it home. The car was MOT'd when I bought it, and it shouldn't have any problem passing more of them.
Pictures do tend to flatter a bit with most cars, and especially if they're white. It's not mint, but it is shiny and presentable, and a lot better than the previous paint. The white 2 pack paint should be durable and keep its shine well, as long as you don't go bouncing it off of the scenery. There's about half a litre of paint spare to go with it, if you want it.
This corner has had a scuff.
Front left wing had a scuff on the front corner.
Ally roof panel to save weight. Not very pretty but it fills the hole and it didn't leak on me - even in the pouring rain driving back from Llandow. If you're not keen on it you could buy a Fibreglass or Carbon roof to make it look pretty.
