Hi all, I've bought a 1975 hillman hunter 4 door saloon, bit of a sad looking car atm, but the shell is completely unwelded and no rot whatsoever! Happy days  The engine had an overheating problem though, and I wanted something more reliable anyway so I've bought a 1.8 MX5 engine and gearbox to side in there does anyone know how much I could sell the hunter engine and gearbox? Or better still, anyone want one that would like to make an offer? The gearbox is absolutely fine, the engine just need the cooling system sorted, but runs okay other than that cheers |

If the shell is as good as you say I wouldn't be putting another inferior engine in it, there are not many Hunters left, but its your car good luck with the project.
PS by inferior I don't mean the Japanese engine is rubbish, far from it just don't want to see it in a British car.

I can see your point, and know where you're coming from, but I just wanted something with a but more "umph" and that was the only small rear wheel drive car engine I could afford... The rest of the car is going to be as original as possible

Try putting it on the Rootes Facebook page, there's a few guys with Hunters and Minxes on there, personally if it means another Hillman is back on the road then best of luck with the conversion.

I am in the process of taking pics, but I'll have to wait until I'm at my girlfriends house as it won't let me upload them on my phone. (I don't have internet at home yet!)  I Will make a thread of it though and keep it updated if you're interested |
